Player Archie Gray

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Gray goes nowhere unless the club decide to sell.

It's a non-story.

Moving on.

If anything the bloke becomes captain in 2 or 3 years.

We aren't some two bit club FFS, just because of a season of sh!t.

If we go down it's in ENIC'S hands to do the right thing.

He left his boyhood club that he was a fan of, his whole life, to play at the top level. He's proven he belongs, unlike the rest. I don't see how he'd stay here.

I disagree and the price the club would probably place on his services will likeky make any sale prohibitive.

How long do you think we will be out of the PL for if we go down?
How long's a piece of string?

I never foreseen us getting relegated, so getting out of a very tough league, I'm not sure. Heart says straight back up, head says it'll be a struggle.

Only thing we have on our side is that there's never been a team relegated with the resources that we have, and we could out spend the whole division combined of we so wished. But as long as the brain trust are upstairs running things, I don't know.

I thought we would spend in January. We really didn't.

Like you I don't think anyone on the board foresaw what has occurred and looks increasingly likely to happen.

If the owners fail to spend the required amount to take us straight back up in any such event, then their negligence will be confirmed. I think they will reinvest everything that is recouped and back De Zerbi to the hilt, because not doing so makes their investment less attractive.

As in a golf putt, hit the ball hard enough to take out the slight break. Spend spend spend in other words.

He's got to score. No excuses.

That said, Xavi is the one who really fucks up that glorious chance. Gets in Berg's way, then decides to go for Gray when he should've backheeled it towards Danso or - better - do a Cruyff turn and hit it with his left.

Had to be a goal basically and it's a disgrace it wasn't.

De Zerbi saying we must nail down a position for Archie.

De Zerbi on Gray:

He is very young, (but) big potential as a player. I think he can become the future. I am sure he can become the future of this club, the captain of this club and he has to understand better what will be his position on the pitch. He can play in a lot of positions, but maybe I would like him to be more specific in one position. We are working on that, in individual meetings with individual clips for me and any way he is an important player. Palhinha did not play the first three games and the fourth was one of the best players on the pitch.

What the hell is this!!!??? Actual coaching going on! How dare he!?
Its amazing. Its also very telling that Roberto De Zerbi is saying out loud lots of things people here have pointed out but that Ange and Frank seemed weirdly obtuse to. So for example we all saw pretty damn quick Radu Dragusin purchase made zero sense a poorer passer than Dier who he replaced but no it was fine, in a system where on the ball centerbacks were vital.

Grey 40 million lovely kid obvious ability but what is he? identify it and get learning the position. Danso, RDZ remarks match ours, top bloke who you'd want in your corner in a scrap...but needs to learn to use thd ball crisply and accurately. Bergvall stop with the glory stuff learn to play quick one touch. Sarr got blasted by the gaffer for a cheap give away Sunday. Been like this forever. Its so reassuring that AT LAST the coach seems to be watching and seeing what we are.

No one has more love for De Zerbi than myself but eulogising him for his coaching of Archie Gray by NOT PLAYING HIM seems a little over the top. :D

It's almost as if, with a fully fit defence, and fully fit CM Midfield, De Zerbi has, correctly, identified that he doesn't need to be playing the youth in these must win games. Just as he's not playing the likes of Radu Dragusin given he doesn't have to.

But sure let's all pretend that it was Postecoglou's choice to play teenage Gray at CB/LB/RB for 4 months in 24/25. Or that Frank didn't try and play him in his preferred position a times but always got slaughtered for, rightly, preferring the Bentinha double pivot when it was available to him.

There's nothing more fickle and hypocritical than a certain section of Spurs fans with their obvious agendas. :roflmao:

Christ, a competent manager who’s actually gonna nail Archie down to a box to box midfielder. It’s not rocket science.

I'd love if Archie became a 6, but it does seem he's somehow a bit more mentally suited to playing an 8 role. Maybe that's just a tactical maturity thing, I'm not sure. I trust RDZ to sort it out. It would be great in any case to have a CM that could also play at fullback or CB if required. Archie could be extremely valuable for us in that way, and maybe rack up a few extra starts too.

Like Kimmich, good footballer that can play multiple positions well. I think while hes young and has legs on him you use them, them players who are natural footballers usually end up playing as a holding midfielder sort of player anyway.

He’s just not great playing ion the half-turn like a really good 6 should be, Maybe later on in his career he will move back there a bit like Jordan Henderson.

Needs more aggression though.
Seems like too much of a nice boy at the minute, needs a bit of hatred in his heart haha.

He has a very high ceiling though, very good natural footballer, but does need that bit of spitefulness in him. Hopefully that will come in time.

Bergvall has that in his game, he's like a terrier out there, if anything maybe he needs to actually mellow a little, all about that balance isn't it. You can see it with how they both strike a ball, Bergvall goes through it with violence, Gray is feeble in comparison.
