Competition Are we playing for 5th ?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I said the same thing a couple of seasons ago when everyone wanted us to put Bryan Gil in goal and lose to Man City.

Having said that, I'm not ready to concede the league to the scum just yet. I don't think we can win it but we might just be able to throw a spanner in the works to stop Woolwich. If we beat them at the Emirates in a couple of weeks and beat them again at the Lane later in the season, that's 6 points we'll have taken off them and, if Liverpool and Man City get it together, they can still catch them.

Even if Woolwich do go on to win the league, if we beat them home and away, we will at least be able to say that we did our bit. In 97/98, when they did the double and we spent the season fighting relegation, we still managed two draws against them despite having a team that lost 6-1 at home to Chelsea (if one of those draws had been a win for us, we would have stopped them winning the league).

If we bring our A game into the NLD, we can still do something.

COYS
Agreed... also need to remember they lost to a Liverpool team who aren't that great and needed a last gasp equaliser to bear City at the Emirates... other than that, the win at OT on the opening day is probably their best result. They have two big London derbies against us and the Chavs at the end of this month with Bayern sandwiched in between. Let's see where they are then... I always think they are one long term injury to Saliba or that cunt Gabriel away from imploding.

We didn't field our best available 11 in the League Cup because, presumably, 4th or 5th in the league is more important, but what does 4th or 5th actually get us? More money (to waste)? World class player attraction (no, because we've proven that time and again, as we don't pay top wages)?

We keep throwing these cup competitions for what, a league placing that doesn't actually do anything special for us, as a net outcome? May as well try and win the league cup (which is the most winnable thing we are in) - obviously not this season, again, because wherever we finish in the league isn't exactly going to make a difference to our chances the following season. In fact, playing CL football, with the extra games, makes it all tougher, since we always have half our first team out injured.
Premier League Clubs are businesses first and foremost.
Winner of the League Cup gets 100k.
Each PL place is worth around 3m.
If you are a business which one are you going to prioritise?
I get you are not a business and a fan like me but our beloved club don't see us as fan's... they see us as consumers.

We didn't field our best 11 because we have a weak squad as it is with all these injuries and that and our schedule over the next month or so is crazy, it was for the greater good.

If VDV and Kudus go down with injuries where does it leave us?
Do you think we bought well enough in the summer, as we had long-term injuries even before a Premier League ball was kicked, and injuries in large numbers seem to be a Spurs thing. The fact we are throwing competitions already, when we can't exactly be that choosy, is disappointing.

We did alright, a LCB and an actual LW would have been ideal.

That said the biggest issue is this injury plague we seem to have at the club, it was never going to get addressed in one window.

It seems that apart from Woolwich at the top, this ENTIRE league is mental...
The top half is separated by about 4 points .. except fir the Arse of COURSE with their fucking cushion!

Everyone else feels like they can justify being in a false position...
We're 3rd/4th now but feel like we're scrapping for 10th...

City & Liverpool are convinced they're lower than they should be...

Even Wolves are seemingly playing better than their league position suggests, and Bournemouth probably have imposter syndrome...

But the arse.....oh they're so fucking happy with their collective shit eating grins
.. Look at them.. fuck the arse!

We'll probably be 5th or 6th at the end of today, and 10 games is usually when league position starts to mean something. So I'd say we are playing for 5th.

It's a tough month ahead, but we're also getting some key players back.
