Competition Are we playing for 5th ?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

By the end of this weekend we could be 7th, which is where we deserve to be. If we wind up 6th or 5th we can consider ourselves very fortunate.

Agree- the league is so competitive this year. I reckon the top 10-12 teams are all very strong this year and can nick points off anyone else in the top 12 on any given day. We honestly don't deserve to be any higher until we can figure out how to generate more victories in these close games though. The good news is the problems are actionable. Hopefully Frank and co can figure it all out with time. Players returning from injury will help immensely too.

Everyone tells me we'll finish mid table and below but our rivals can't put any consistency together either...

We are on 62 points pace right now. Not bad given squad situation and new manager at the wheel.

If we can get some players back like Solanke and Kulusevski, plus see Odobert, Xavi and maybe Tel develop during the season - finish closer to 70 points which should translate to ~5 position is not out of our reach.

Classis case of most people underestimating us and overestimating the opposition.

Our away record under Frank so far is incredible.

We steadily build on the home form and we could surprise quite a few people.

Who knows how it all develops, but I think we will be in the conversation for top 4.

70 was enough for 4th last season and looking at the amount of dropped points already this season won't be surprised if it's enough again.

You can consider the glass to be half full, by assuming that we'll eventually recover this dreadful home form to a reasonable level while also sustaining this great away form although not to this degree.

You can also consider the glass to be half empty, by assuming that home form in general is the more truthful indicator of where a team stands than the away form, and we'll come crushing down when the latter eventually regresses to a mean as sample size increases and noise clears.

Other things being equal I don't see a reason to choose one over the other, but then everything's not equal: Home or away, our xG metrics strongly suggest that we're playing like a bottom half team that should be winning very few games. So #2 is probably closer to the truth at the moment.

We could finish anywhere from 5th-8th. Be surprised if it was any lower. Anyone talking top 4 is nuts, there are four teams with miles better teams. Did people not see Chelsea wipe the floor with us without even trying lmao.

Mid table is just people being unnecessarily pessimistic.

It’s not bad but our upcoming fixtures are hideous, we’ve had a very comfortable run of games so far. Let’s see where our pace is at after the next 5/6 league games - our away form is good now but after gooners, palace, Newcastle away etc.. maybe not.

Teams like Brighton, Bournemouth, Palace, feckin Brentford ironically could all very easily finish above us, as well as the usual suspects. We could very easily not finish in the top half

They definitely could but I don’t think they will, they’re all inconsistent. They can look great for a month or two then terrible for another month or two.

Villa and Newcastle similar but more our level of inconsistency so it’s a toss of a coin depending o injuries etc.

Last 10 games = 10th in the league.
Last 6 games = 9th in the league.

But our MW1 win puts us 5th. Shows how tight the league really is.

Just need to go and beat Woolwich at their place to lay down a marker.
That’s something we always find easy to do!!!

They're all inconsistent? Metrics wise, we're consistently bad but over achieving massively in both ends of the pitch. Highly unlikely that stays that way. We're likely going to be in the bottom half after the next match week and tough fixtures until January. We are very inconsistent.

Villa are rolling now after a shaky start. Newcastle did this last time they were in the CL and post Christmas went on a tear. They have a much better team than us and aren't out of sight by any means.

Nothing about how we're playing indicates to me that we're going to find consistent form.

Ask yourself who has more potential to get better as the season wears on.

As Frank gets to grips with this squad, players return and players like Xavi settle.

Some people like yourself are just fuckin negative, and you always be lol

Fuck knows how you get through the day 😆
