The way Vinicius Jr and RM acted make it even better he didn't win. Talking about role model for the younger generation, he has fuck all. So self entitled. He could have won alot more, in respect, had he been graceful in defeat. At 24 he's acting like he has slogged his life of 40 years to reach. All the trophies he has won are more hollow than ever. Pathetic.
Regardless of who won (or lost) the fact Real Madrid have acted like they have, shows an immaturity and "Spoilt Kid" syndrome like no other...

No they didn't win the best player, but didn't they just win the best TEAM??

THAT for me shows they only care about ONE PERSON.. not the club as a whole ..

They deserve everything they get!

Superstar pandering, global market caring cunts!

I find this an odd take. The blokes not obligated to fly mid week to another country between games for an award ceremony. And as for being a role model I'm not sure how going helps guide kids whether you win or lose. Frankly I find this kind of award in a team sport utterly cringe. If I won it I'd not go.

Let's see you win it first...

I BET you'd go!
(I fucking would, if only to hand the trophy back for misrepresentation!)

I agree absolutely. Ridiculous subjective individual award in a sport where the only thing that matters is team performance and measurable goals (literally).

Having said that, football is an industry and it’s an industry night. Even the guy that’s nominated for best supporting actor with no chance of winning shows up to cheer on his peers. This smacks of very sour grapes by Vini and RM who lost to a player who had a better year (in my , yes, subjective view).

I can understand. Some people dread going to awards. He's a respected player, or at least he find himself to be. Is basic courtesy to attend, mingle, build relationships, just like how most others do in the awards shows globally, or even for some of us attending industry awards, no matter how cringe or PR one has to act. A mid-week time out is nothing for him - he could have that entire journey and back lying down and doing nothing in the best class of services all taken care of.

As for the role modelling part, I brought it specifically because he is a Brazilian. Like Richy, they always tend to hype so much of wanting to give back to their country and society and help the kids, help the poor because they will say so much about how hard they have gotten to this level. Imagine kids back in his country looking up to him could now think it's alright to throw toys out of the pram when they are not appreciated and recognised, when he could have taken this opportunity to teach an even more important lesson to the next generation, by being more graceful in defeat and encouraging.

And now journalists and politicians in Brazil also kinda join in the support of him and criticised the award and Rodri and possibly indirectly Spain. Vinciniur Jr created such a mess in splitting opinions now as if the world isn't messy enough, all because of his personal pride.

Ironically he's earning his dough in Spain. All the more shitty.

Vini should have won it, I’d have told them to swivel too.

By far the best player. Monster in the CL,
Why so?
Scoring goals helped his TEAM win the TEAM award... Which included him, no? As part of a TEAM!

Rodri winning it sets a standard that it's not just the goalscorers who win it...
It's been forwards every fucking year!

I think the importance of a world class DM should be recognised once in a while...

It's a TEAM game, and arguably a DM is the difference between winning and losing... Not always the goalscorers!

Ok yeah you're right if I win the Ballon dor, I'd definitely go( full Tottenham kit socks shin pads jockstrap sweat bands). But in a team sport it's dopey and in my own work I was nominated for something prestigious and I didn't go ( came second anyway...Tottenham till I die see).
