Ben should get a contract extension, I’d sign him up for a few years.
Agree. He doesn't get a lot of respect here, but when we need an actual defender, a CB, he's very capable. Always is for Wales too. He's also a model professional for the youngsters and our social responsibilities and dirt cheap too.
Top pro who has made the absolute max of his ability and rarely let us down over 12 seasons. That he only has 187 pages shows you how unflashy/drama free he is.
For the life of me I can't see how our manager sees drago in front of Ben on the LHS of our CB pairing...

If you were to pick one of our players for our youngsters to follow in terms of a role model, he’d be right up there for his professionalism and work ethic.
Drugu's left foot is so absent from making a contribution he should probably consider playing with a parrot on his shoulder and a patch over his eye.

According to Jack Pitt Brooke we're going to take up the extra years option on his contract.
Not sure about that despite his excellent performance Saturday and always liking his attitude. Just feels a bit like treading water and have a similar feeling to when we extended Forsters contract last season, which as we're now seeing is biting us in the arse.
With this, Forster, a 5 year contract for Austin and bringing Werner back, it doesnt exactly scream ambition. Some really odd decisions in there.

Not sure what you’re not sure about tbh. He’s been a consummate professional, and is a useful squad player. He’ll also be a big help to the younger lads. Absolute role model is our Ben.
It’s not treading water. Every squad could use an experienced professional old head like Ben.
It’s an absolute no brainer. Keep him an extra season and maybe then he moves into a youth coaching role or something.

With Vuskovic coming and presumably another LB in the summer it's just depth....... He's 31; this is not old for a CB and he's never been pace-dependent.
We wouldn't be as dependent on Ben as we made ourselves on Forster (If we'd signed a new #2GK and kept him as a HG #3 there'd have been no cause for complaint on that front either).

Fair points. Think Vuskovic might need another loan though. I've always liked Davies and stuck up for him plenty in this thread, just not sure on this. He wasnt even making the matchday squad in our league games until a couple of weeks ago.
Which surely only speaks further to his depth status and value; that he can go from that to being excellent in the EPL against City when required.
There's no reason he doesn't play on for us for a couple more years yet........Consider Milner at Liverpool, Barry, Coleman and many others.
At 2-0 in the NLD (the crucial one where we needed to win to overtake them in 4th and get CL).
Anyway - at 2-0 they were really pressing hard, despite being down to 10 men. A corner and suddenly the ball falls on the volley to them about 6 yards out. It's a goal, clear as day. Until Ben throws himself at it, and it flies away out of danger. And it's not a story because it all happened in the blink of an eye and shortly after that we get the 3rd. But 2-1, and it's a whole different game and a possible opportunity horribly missed.
This is what he does, time after time. No fuss, no play acting, didn't theatrically clutch his gonads or whatever part of him the ball hit. Calmly, professionally, every time.

If BD does ever get a Testimonial, he's the sort of guy that would donate the lot to worthy charities, and I'd certainly try to get there if i could.
