Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Give it a rest, if he plays poorly every week what do you think he’s going to get, praise?
Considering the opposition, I honestly thought it was one of the worst individual performances of recent years.
Usually, if you don't notice a player, it means he's had a bad or largely ineffective game.
Tonight Johnson stood out. Because he had a very effective game. In that everything he touched turned to shite.

Shocking performance

As if on cue, you demonstrate your lack of understanding of the game by misunderstanding what I said.

I said "if Johnson had got his toe onto Porro's header" which was the only goal we scored in the game, meaning if he'd have got a touch on a ball that was already going in you'd have chatting your usual shit but you've taken it to mean something else entirely which is understandable as you clearly don't watch football and the nuance of what I said wouldn't show up in a spreadsheet.
I assumed you were talking about some chance I'd not remembered and not made up a completely unrealistic hypothetical about a goal which he was 5+ yards from and entirely uninvolved in the play involved in the goal.

A more intelligent hypothetical would have been to propose what if that volley screamer he'd hit had found the net and not the keeper. Or if Solanke/Son had been in position to bury the nice low cross he hit in 3 yards out from goal.

Instead you're chatting shit about if he had scored the goal we scored anyway - well, yes, since we're here, if he had scored the goal that eventually was the difference between us drawing the match and losing the match it would be rather hard to lay the blame for the draw at his feet.

There's 10 other players out there on the pitch, too, and at least 6 of them contributed as little or less as Johnson.

Yep.

Why didn't it, he was unmarked and 4 yards out? Btw, you can just say screamer or volley, only one of those applies in this scenario but just for future reference.
Or if Solanke/Son had been in position to bury the nice low cross he hit in 3 yards out from goal.
Why wasn't the pass were they were? Are we blaming Son and Solanke now for your numerical hero's inability to affect the game?

LOL

Werner wasn’t even played in his correct position this time- of course he looked bad. That’s on Ange. When out left he is a decent wing option, especially as a sub.

A fair concession; but his basic use of the ball was terrible.... Regardless of runs and movement. He constantly clattered the ball at oppo legs even when stood still.

I only got to watch as the subs all came on, but I doubt BJ was any worse than Werner tonight. He was crap.
I assumed that Werner was going to replace Son, which I think would've been a welcome pair of fresh legs, down the left wing, and Kulu on for BJ on the right wing. However, it seems that Ange thought Son was worth keeping on for another 20 minutes. Werner was pretty pony at RW.

He just has zero aggression, if he gets that he will be good
Lol his issue definitely isn’t only aggression, his main issue for us being a starting RW in a team that wants to challenge for important trophies, is his severe lack of technical ability which is not something he’s going to improve at this stage.

He is a player who’s literally only effective if a perfect ball is played in behind the Lb for him to run onto. We need so much more than that from our wide players in this system, the teams were trying to catch have salah, saka and foden in this position. Johnson is mid to lower mid table standard.

However, it seems that Ange thought Son was worth keeping on for another 20 minutes.
Everyone thinks Son is likely to score a goal at any time. I get it- he’s scored lots of goals in the past. However something is off right now and he’s not been as effective recently.

This season I believe we will be punished for failing to drop him when the situation and his performance requires it, and think we were punished in that manner today.

Ok now it starts, we drew a game cause of one single players performance? What’s wrong with us as a club isn’t ability or quality it’s fucking attitude as a first 11. For decades it’s excuse after excuse after excuse. *we will learn from this* *we will do better*. Shut the fuck up and do it then.

Yes, it's a very difficult situation, as he can be a peripheral player, and then produce a screamer from nowhere. I'm too conflicted to say anything else.

Seemed like everything he did right today he canceled out by falling over the ball or doing something equally bad. Felt he tracked back well, probably should've had an assist with that ball across goal nobody was bursting a bollock to get there for, but his falling over the ball when we had a potential 4 on 3 was fucking ridiculous.

Not our worst performer, but also not someone you can rely on when the chips are down to grab a hold of the game. But not many right wingers are I suppose.

The volley was a difficult shot at a tough angle. Fair enough it could have been a bit here or there and made it more difficult, but it could have also been in row Z where most would have hit it.

The cross was a good one. If he'd angled it further towards the centrespot it would have been intercepted. Son should have been on the far post for the tap it, he just should have.

I said it in the thread, if it had been Son playing the ball the other direction the people calling out Johnson cross would have been calling Johnson out for not being in position rather than Son's cross. It was a good cross that deserved a finish, it just was.

Yet for some reason dumb dumbs on here thought this would magically improve in his second season...
