Ex-Spurs Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Much divided opinion on Johnson, although I cannot fathom why people don't want a Spurs player to do well, unless they demonstrate a lack of respect to the fans. Ndombele, Bissouma and Lo Celso to name 3 more obvious exponents of the dark arts.

Clearly Johnson is ls lacking in confidence at present, and must know the challenge is on, for club and country.

Johnson's primary quality, some will say only quality is his calmness in front of goal and of course his goal threat. Absent at present.

I think we will see goals from Johmson and in that streaky fashion, starting soon, but long-term and to be a regular starter, he may need to move on.

I do not see that happening.

I am not seeing anyone turning up their nose and say that they would not like him to become next Welsh wizard on the wing, similar in impact as the previous one that we had.

But hopes/wishes and reality might differ. I think you can see people reflecting and discussing (and being dissapointed) in what they are actually seeing.

Regarding what fans are seeing - I think part of the problem is that the way he plays, it feels like he is not fighting enough. I too, when I look at him, I very rarely see a man that is willing to do whatever to win. Who is willing to put his body on line to stop opposition player. I mean one's on-the-ball play can be weak or weakish. But you can run, press, tackle, shove a shoulder, close down. Just look at Richie as an example. Let's face it - he hasn't been superb signing either. But people are willing to give him some more slack. Because he seems to be fighting and trying much harder (generally speaking - in some recent games he seems to be rolling on the ground bit too much).

I do hope that he scores many goals for us with his reminder of his time here. I also do hope that he starts working/pressing/trying harder for the team too.

We should have sold him in the summer when his price was as high as it ever would be. That was the correct time to sell him but as like so many times in the past we just never sell at the right time.

I guess that was down to not getting another winger in too...
And also down to leaving things late as we almost always do. Meaning that even if by some miracle we would have got Savinho on deadline day, it is questionable, if we would have found a suitable buyer for Johnson. I guess Newcastle could have been an option at some point (looking at how desperate they were and how they play quite a counter-attacking-football at times). But that did not happen.

Looking it from other angle - surely number of people would have lamented his departure as well "Oh look at that, that money-grabbing management sold our last season top scorer before the replacements have proven themselves" and whatnot.

But by now it is bit clearer- even without one winger getting in, Johnson is behind Odobert. And in reality we should ASAP bring in someone who'd be in front of both. And it does not seem rational to keep him around as 3rd choice player. So I think it would be genius business of buying Semenyo for 100 mil, selling Johnson for 35 mil and as a result massively improve the squad with quite reasonable net investment of 65 mil.

Fair come back on my post.

I am really a firm believer that we are what we what we are. Not too much changes despite all the attempts. Case in point- Rashford. Superb player but will have highs and lows and not a smiler. That's him. At United, he just got stale, but his spikes are so so high

Johnson won't ever be the player so many would like to see. Not him.

If Johnson were scoring goals he would have more confidence. If he were first choice he would feel wanted. He is clearly that kind of player/person.

We will see, but I think this ends with him leaving unless Frank finds a way to use him differently.

But change, beyond the odd game, and largely by matters of perception ain't happening.

I think most people have lived through not selling players like Dier and Dele at the right time though and now understand why it is important to sell some players at their peak. But yeah there will be some who dont see the bigger picture (I didn't then in fairness).

Had he gone we may have paid for Savinho (although I thought that was too much money).

Well, Savinho was not an option.
Unless we would have offered 100+ million which would have been absurd overpaying.

As you can see, there was a board member blocking his exit and now he has signed a new contract already.

But for some other wingers transfer fee, sure, proceeds from selling Johnson could cover. Specially now that he is behind Odobert in pecking order.

Everything else aside Johnson is on a really poor run in front of goal.

The goals are his one obvious saving grace, and in their absence, there isn’t much of a case to be made.

We need him to find his scoring boots.

Maybe need to play him to allow him to score?

Started three games this season and scored twice. Comes on as sub with minutes to go to try to salvage a result and he doesn’t score. Not that much of a shock.

Clear Frank doesn't quite rate him as yet.

I said it last season as you will know and say it again now,he is our main goal threat in many respects.

I hope Frank likes riddles. He has won with us that's for sure. I should say I hope Frank is good at solving them.

I'd bring him back into the side on the right and move Kudus to the ten. Take xavi out for a breather and put Muani left

Stick with Richarlison up top for now, especially back at Everton.

Johnson
Kudus
Muani

Richarlison

I’d read that Frank had tried to sign him three times, so I expected him to play more. Then we signed a new RW. So Kudus is always going to play.

But we were always going to miss Johnson’s goals. If nothing else.

Geezer gets never ending abuse from the fanbase but we currently have 3 players in the starting 11 that literally have offered absolutely nothing going forward.

Johnson at least offers a goal threat...at least that. We have Xavi who pisses his pants every time theres an opening for a shot, Odobert who exists and Tel who loses a strength battle with wind.

His confidence was high at the end of last season and remained high going into this and he was scoring goals. The fact that his confidence is probably low now and will struggle if he's looking on the field and thinking I've been replaced by that is on the manager im afraid. Im all for replacing him with better. But what he's being replaced with aren't better and aren't scoring any goals so what's the point.

He knows where the goal is for sure
