Ex-Spurs Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It really all just is sophism defending him

It’s clear he’s not good enough as a starter in any position, and that we need to move on from him. Hes a nice enough lad and I’ll always appreciate Bilbao. But people acting like Johnson is actually some important player for us are simply doing so to be contrarians and to get into arguments. His overall level of play is simply far too limited.

People (including myself tbf) are a bit too rude to him but the defenders of Johnson are simply denying reality at this point.

Denying reality? Top scorer for the club last year. Scores in big games as well. But to you and your mates who probably can't manage 5 keep ups between you, he's not good enough.

The sad reality is that so called fans like you are so invested in your own opinion now, you'd prefer to see Johnson fail than succeed. Hating Johnson is pretty much your entire personality on this forum.

Johnson has been a great signing for the money paid and we shouldn't be looking at anything less than £60 mil to let him go. And if he stays, he still has a big role to play in challenging for more trophies and finishing top 4.

Yeah of course! I'm not arguing against having 'strong' opinions about players. Just calling him a cunt etc all the time - it's just unnecessary.
Totally agree. I wanted Ange out as much as the next guy but the personal shit was just stupid. There’s just some players that you don’t ever want to watch though and we have a couple that ruin my buzz for a game but I’m sure it’s the same at every club.

60 million for a guy in and out of the Wales eleven in which Harry Wilson is a star attacker hahahahaha what fucking planet do some of you live on ?!?!

It’s genuinely hilarious the overlap between the Ange fanboys and now backing Johnson to the hilt. Almost as if they’ve transferred their delusional takes to a new figurehead.

Yeah agree with this.

I do think it's ok to praise him when he (eventually) does something well, like that goal the other day, without being accused of being a Brennan fanboi.

I mean...I'm Welsh and I want him gone! But some posters just got rather overboard about him (we all know which ones) and need to grow up.

Hopefully his performances pick up a bit for us and help us to sell him but if/when he goes, I'll wish him nothing but good luck.

I just think some of the childish name-calling needs to stop. Just my view.
I can agree with that. The energy around the team last season was just incredibly toxic, losing every week finishing 17th, getting smacked up at home all the time. We all looked for our scapegoats, of which there were many. Johnno is an easy one because his strengths aren’t really visible when we’re losing- he’s a good runner off ball and he’s got a great first time cross on him, and obviously he ended up being productive using those.

However, when it’s bad, he looks non-league level on the ball and it’s effectively like playing with 10 men. I remember the crowd sarcastically applauding him attempting a dribble. But he is just an indictment of a flawed, disjointed recruitment system rather than some bad egg himself.

I would like to try to be more positive, especially going into derby weekend. I think Frank has been a bit taken aback by how toxic and negative it can get at home and I’d fully admit some responsibility in it when I have gone to matches. We all vent and let out steam on here and it doesn’t lead to constructive discussion most of the time.

Bizarre, inaccurate, delusional post. I have never wanted any Spurs player to fail in my entire life, and I’ve lost my voice cheering a few of Johnson’s goals the past couple years, most recently the City one. To suggest my “entire personality” is hating on Johnson is both incorrect and, considering I don’t think we’ve even interacted before, rather creepy.

However, I thank you for proving my original point about Johnson “defenders” just being interested in contrarianism. The only people who actually think Johnson’s a quality player are sudoku and shady ffs.

This guy and sudoku are trolls. No point.

I think 95% of the posters in here agree that BJ has serious flaws but can also do good things on occasion. In my opinion, the good things don’t happen often enough and it translates into him being a below average player, but a player that is still useful to the current squad.

This thread has basically one or two trolls on each side that intentionally wind up other posters instead of actually discussing the player.

You have to be an idiot to say that the goal the other day was not a good goal. You also have to be an idiot to say “assists. It’s what he does.”, when he has 0 assists this season and is in the 19th percentile over the last year for his position. Yet both of these were said.

Unfortunately, the idiots speak the loudest in here.

Agree mostly but it is up to frank and the players to garner positive energy. The performances if you call it that at home have been terrible. We were ripped apart by Bmouth, wolves 2nd abysmal, chavs diabolical etc. What are the players saying to each other in their stupid huddles at start and HT. Not seen one game where we have been fully on it at home regardless of what Frank says in pre match presser.

WALOB
I am not a troll.
I have realistic expectations from our players.
Here is my prediction from this thread:

Who will score our goals this season?

Well, early season confidence, I reckon we can well improve last season's 64 to 80 this term.
Obviously hoping that set pieces will produce more goals from CBs.

I expected Johnson to score about 7 goals this season.

If Johnson started playing well and putting in complete performances, beating his man, being positive and creative in possession...basically the things most teams want and need their wide players to do then I'll be as happy as anyone. It would mean one od our obvious weaknesses has become a massive strength. I don't care about winning Internet arguments, I care about Spurs being good.

Problem is, Johnson would basically need to morph into a different human being in order to become the player we need in that position.

Johnson's a moments player and has scored some great goals but I maintain he's a luxury we simply cannot afford. He's one of the very worst wingers in the entire league and pretty much everything except finishing and running into space. And the rest of our team just ain't good enough to get away with a guy that limited in so many key areas.

I haven't completely written him off but I think the best case scenario is us using him as an impact player to exploit space behind teams when we're ahead. He's a useful option off the bench when we're winning games but I'd be very surprised and impressed if Frank can make him into a reliable starter who isn't a black hole in possession.

We just can’t seem to have nice things here. Our wingers can either score goals, but do fuck all else. Tricky dribblers with no crossing ability. Can hold the ball up, but can’t score.

Surely there are players out there, that are attainable, that tick more than one box?
