If it was planned, why didn't they plan a proper sending off at home? It all happened very fast.

He's a 32 wide forward, the EPL isn't a one month tournament (the world cup won't 'prove' a thing) its brutal and its way more attritional than the MLS. We love Son if he'd wanted to do the final year and ended it getting owned by James and Skelly then he stays. But he as smart as he is likeable. Leave on the biggest possible high cementing his Spurs legendary status. Then get a seasons prep in getting a feel for the stadia and pitches in America so setting himself up for the best possible tournament for South Korea at the world cup and ensuring full Korean god status.

Agree with parts, but if he's still in shape in a year, then the talk about him being cooked now is obviously wrong. Either you're finished or you aren't. If you're done, as some claim, you don't perform well at a World Cup either. A world cup brings the best out of people and is the pinnacle of football. But we can talk more about in a years time.
But what did the younger guys do, or currently do, that Son can't? Nobody performed very well under Ange. And only Kudus has been very good this year.
But the way Ange utilized Son was doomed to fail, even in Son's prime, he was way too wide for most of our games.
Finding a fit fast player isn't hard. There are plenty out there. But a little guile and experience can make up for a lot at the highest level. And older players can thrive if used cleverly.
I just don't buy that Tel, Odobert and Xavi are currently better players than Son. Or BJ for that matter.
And for speed etc. Son still clocked one of the top speeds last season. But he never got time to recover from the international breaks and then with all the other injuries to the squad, he had to play through injuries according to various reports.
I still think it's a player we could've used now. How much have we struggled offensively last few games?
Son is proving much harder to replace than a lot of people want to admit. Maybe because they thought it was easy, and don't want to admit that they were wrog?
Funny we are talking about this in the BJ thread. But BJ is not good enough for Spurs and there's not much more to say about it. I think pretty much everyone agree on that now.
Issue wasn’t letting Son leave. Issue was letting him leave and then not even making any sort of attempt to replace him with a wide forward who could realistically be expected to score 15+.
We needed a big replacement. We went in with Odobert and Tel on the left. I predicted they won’t combine for 10 league goals between them - frankly at this rate we’ll be lucky if they manage 5.

Of course, they were always going to extend him rather than risk losing him for free (unless some freak accident happened that left him with no value on the market). But that doesn’t excuse how it was handled. For a legend and current captain to be treated that was really disappointing.
The relationship may already have soured, and it's probably correct that Frank didn't have much to do with it. I imagine they thought Xavi would step up and eventually replace Son, but it’s pretty clear that’s not happening.
At this point, the next signing simply has to be a success. We can’t afford to go another season with such an impotent left wing.

He stands on the pitch and doesn’t make a tackle, or a forward run or pass far more often. I like him, but don’t make excuses - unless he’s scoring he’s useless
