More likely Ange. His system was set up for a player like Johnson. One touch finishes and all that. He certainly isn’t a winger. Prob play as one of 2 10s if he goes to Palace , will suit him

I like BJ a hell of a lot more than you (not hard mind you!) but it's mind-numbingly obvious that there's no place for him in a Thomas Frank side - for all the reasons you outline.
And it seems obvious to Brennan imo - as he's completely checked out even when he does get on the ground. Frank would have to completely change his approach to accommodate him and he's not going to do that and rightly so.
Does Frank have a clear approach that gets the best or anything out of any player?

Yeah whether it's Paratici pulling the strings from a distance, Levy or Lange, the overall "plan" and recruitment strategy has been a pile of shit over the past few years, both from a managerial and a player perspective.
1. Bring in a short term guy in Conte. Don't buy him any of the players he actually wants (except Perisic) but do buy 3 specialist wing backs in Udogie, Spence and Porro, who then barely play for him before he's sacked.
2. Switch to an attacking manager who plays with a back 4. "This is the style we're moving towards now long term". Buy him a few players that suit his system (VdV, Maddison, Vicario). Looking reasonable - time to push on.
3. Sell a bunch of middling but experienced squad players (Hoj, Royal, Dier, Skipp, Lo Celso) and replace them with some talented teenagers with barely any top flight experience and Solanke. No dribbly winger, barely any CBs - good luck!
4. Squad implodes and season a disaster. Not enough depth, too much youth and inexperience for so many games.
5. Pivot back to a defence-first manager. Paratici says "I always buy players to suit the manager's style" which is the exact opposite of what a DoF should do if there's any kind of long term footballing strategy in place. Not a single decent passer in the whole midfield. Still playing the wing-backs we bought for Conte as full-backs. No obvious route to minutes for multiple players with similar profiles (too many young LWs and 8s eating each other's minutes).
We're very obviously making it up as we go along and there's no coherent plan in place. I honestly think we should just kick out both Paratici and Lange and start again. Paratici is horrible at picking managers and flip-flops constantly, while Lange isn't convincing and only signed children when we needed at least some experience. The two of them and Frank thought getting Tel on a permanent was a smart deal...why?!
Our squad does have genuine talent throughout, and I have confidence there are managers that could make them into a coherent unit with a couple of choice signings, but it makes almost NO sense in terms of squad-building at all. It's a mish-mash of nonsense.
It's just a fucking mess. Fuck them all off. Get a proper DoF in and let them pick the new manager when Frank inevitably gets the boot either now or in the summer. Then sign the profiles of player we actually need ffs.

We've got less talent than we should have given the money we've spent, and we're lacking certain profiles in the squad, but a better manager could get a lot more out of this squad.
A fair chunk of this squad finished 5th two seasons ago - and that was with us regularly playing the likes of Royal, Davies, Skipp, and Hojbjerg. It's a mess of squad-building, but there's talent there if you use it right and sign a couple of players to fill the gaps. Especially once Kulu, Solanke and Maddison are back.
Man has got an eye for talent.

I do think we would be a much better side with Maddison, Kulu and Solanke but we need to move on, i don’t any of those players will ever be as effective as earlier in their careers - if they ever return at all

If other players had shown marked improvement or if the style of play was such that you could see why Johnson might be seen as surplus to requirements then okay.
What exactly do people think Johnson's departure will bring?
It's a dangerous path to take unless we know for certain we are bringing strikers/,goalscorers in.
