Ex-Spurs Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Good luck to him and thanks for the winner in the EL.

He will do well in a system where his job is purely goals and to play in and close to the box. He isn’t suited to playing as an out and out winger, he is too passive on and off the ball.

I just hope whatever strategy we are applying to transfers that we are buying players for the club and not Frank.

If the wider assessment of Johnson is that he is too limited then fine. I don't see anything in Kudus to give me confidence, that if Frank has a big part to play in who comes in tbat it will lead to anything too constructive.

Good luck to Johnson, if he does move on who also needs to look at himself and realise that it will.now be objectively smaller clubs, and that includes losing his starting place for Wales.

Maybe Johnson will flourish with a lesser pressure.

Sad to see him go. He has obvious flaws but I think he's been under-utilised by Frank, outside of Bale and Son he's probably the most clinical winger we've had in recent years. Will forever be in club folklore for Bilbao, one of only four players this millennium to score for Tottenham in a final. Glad the fans got to sing his song for him a lot at Palace, Johnson again ole ole.

Was hoping we'd have used this move to steal a march on Adam Wharton but clearly that is not the case.

35m is a good fee but I'm not one for celebrating selling players for good fees. Lets see if we can actually invest that 35m well and upgrade on Johnson.

Lets not forgot, we actually had fans who celebrated getting 100m for Harry Kane! Selling players for good fees guarantees nothing unless you put the money to good use ASAP.

Am afraid our squad will slowly be fit for championship if no better, and attacking, replacements are targeted.
If you look at his best moments they are where Son, Kulusevski, Solanke and Maddison are playing and Brennan starts on the right then arrives late in the box. I think we would look a different team with Deki, Solanke and Maddison on the pitch but unfortunately it looks like that might never happen.

I won’t repeat what I and others have already said about him for three years cos we all know his limitations. Delighted to see the back of him and we need to be ruthless with another ten or so players who aren’t good enough.
Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

You know what happens here

We sell him then sign someone totally different (like Savinho)... then we sack Frank and bring in someone who plays a system suited to Johnson.
Nailed it... plus Johnson bangs in 15 for Palace during the second half of the season. The bin dippers buy him for 100m and he rips it up at Anfield for a couple of seasons replacing Salah's output before sealing a dream move to Real for 200m. It's what we do!!!

I’ll be forever grateful to him for Bilbao, and he seems like a truly top bloke.

But, this is 100% the right decision from the club. He is not, and will never ever be good enough for where we should be as a football club.

To anyone questioning this, the calibre of clubs interested should tell you all you need to know. That is his level, not a Champions League club.

Also, it has to be said that frankly this is something that would NEVER have happened under Daniel Levy. Ever.
He would have haggled, and dithered, and pondered until Palace et al got pissed off and ultimately didn’t sign him. Or else, we would have sold him on deadline day with no replacement, after getting the 42.5 million that Daniel wanted instead of 35 million. Utter bolloxology tactics, after years of which is a big reason we are in the mess we are currently in.

I for one am very pleased with how this appears to be playing out. Take the money, move on, improve the squad.
It signals that maybe, just maybe, change is afoot in how we will operate .

Remember, we may have agreed a deal with Palace but once Johnson see's their training facilities in Beckenham he will no doubt turn it down. We basically knocked down better facilities than Palace have now. He will no doubt want a pay rise to somewhere around 120k a week which will smash their current highest earner Daichi Kamada (105k). Fair play to him if he does put playing ahead of money but very few players do that nowadays.
