Ex-Spurs Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I fully credit him with that goal in Bilbao. Whether he touched it or not, he caused it and it won us that trophy.

As someone else mentioned, his week-long piss up was then a beautiful thing to behold.

He'll keep scoring for Cymru too so I get that joy.

Wish the guy nothing but the best.

I would be willing to wager that if he moves in Jan, he will outscore all of Spurs strikers this season.

Selling a 24 year old, 20 goal a season winger feels like madness. Replaced by a guy that scored 3 in 24 games, and is gassed after 60 minutes. It's no surprise his family have asked for a transfer.

That’s what the market rates him and I agree. We overpaid, he hasn’t developed at all. He is what he is at this point which is a player that can do an important thing well but does nothing else.
We also have to accept that we can and do spend more than a lot of teams. What we are willing to pay for a homegrown player will not match what we'll get for him when we sell.

Sad news. Our most instinctive goal scorer, and a very likeable fella.

The wrong fit with Frank and his "football" though.

His main replacement Kudus hasn't convinced me at all. Hey, he can dribble, but that's about it..

I would generally agree, but there must be someone out there that could grasp the opportunity. We’ve replaced a Johnson with Kudus, its cost us a lot of money and the needle hasn’t moved a millimetre.

Kudus is so much better at dribbling, protecting the ball, assisting and being marked by two other players. But he’s not enough of a threat on goal (certainly due to the marked by two players thing). But can you honestly see his return being as good as BJ when we sign a class LW that reduces the two man thing? If so, what are you seeing that I’m not?

No, I agree with all of that. However we can’t carry a player like Johnson who contributes nothing for 89 minutes on the off chance he’ll score.

I remember people complaining about Dele being similar, that he’d do nothing for ages but then pop up and score or assist. However his work rate was always top notch and he never hid from the ball or responsibility. Had Johnson been more like him with his on pitch attitude then he’d be an unbelievable asset. But he isn’t. Even Bellamy said the same when on MNF. He said it was up to Brennan as to where he wants to go or what footballer he wants to be as he has the lot. Well, it looks like one that’s going to palace or Bournemouth.

I can only hope Spurs management have got some kind of plan, as much as BJ infuriates me at times his goals have been incredibly valuable.
Kudas hasn't done enough for me
Tel hasn't done enough
Oderbert hasn't done enough
RKM hasn't done enough
But Johnson is first on the list to be sold... odd.

He'll probably do well at a team like Palace because their style of play suits him. They don't really want the ball, and play pretty direct through the lines. He's a solid bottom half/mid-table player for teams that aren't as fussed about possession and will play him on the shoulder or as a weapon on the break.

Thing is, we're no longer building our attack to cater to his strengths like Ange did and if we have aspirations of actually being a decent team we can't be hanging on to players like BJ. He's literally got some of the worst stats for a wide player in the top 5 leagues over the past year when it comes to passes made, take-ons, carries, assists, progressive passes - pretty much everything except goals. And he hasn't scored in his last 14 league appearances either.

He's a complete luxury at this point and I genuinely think having a wide player who was a complete black hole in possession last season was one of the factors in why we came 17th. Even with his goals, he's so damn easy to mark out of the game and teams knew we basically had nothing down that side of the pitch 95% of the time.

And if he's so good why aren't any actual decent teams looking to buy him at 32.5m quid? That's a bargain in today's market for a homegrown player with 20 goals last season yet not a single top team is interested. It's cos no top team would ever sign a player as limited as BJ, even at a cut-price deal.

Add in the fact Frank clearly doesn't want him and it's the easiest sale we'll ever make. Mental that people suddenly want to keep him imo.

The football knowledge of many members here is very low and I am using very polite language here.comparing Johnson to Kudus is something criminal. And kudus form is not even great with Spurs. But even with his show on our jersey, he is miles better than Johnson.

Absolutely bang on the money.

You wonder what the fcuk is expected of players and why anyone with a brain would sell an instinctive goalscorer in advance of players who barely offer anything of note.

If of course we go out there and buy a quality replacement it might seem a good move but you still would ask why Johnson is first out of the door.

Frankly, Frank is quite baffling at the present time.

My football Knowledge says that goals win games , I will use polite language as
Well and try to explain that taking out BJ and replacing him with Kudus and not replacing his goals else where means we will win less games, not sure if you are aware but goals win games , not take ons that result in fuck all! :paraticiwink:

It’s a shame it hasn’t quite worked for Brennan at Spurs but at this point if there are credible offers for most of the squad, that offer a fair return and then chance for churn we have to take it.

This is one of those deals.

Yeah well then explain me why only clubs like CP, Bmuth, Everton or Sunderland are in for Johnson. Not Chelsea, United or Newcastle. If its that simple like you described.

Yep, and I can't wait for the meltdown on here...

To those labelling BJ as only a tap-in-merchant, with nothing more to his game. Isn't still strange to sell an item like that, without anyone else in the squad with such attributes?

God knows we have use for someone to find the back of the net these days!

BJ have his obvious flaws, but the ability to getting in to the right positions with a cutting edge - and score goals - is what most attacking players dream of.

Solskjær comes to mind as a quite similar player - his only real strength was his ability to find and score goals. That made him a sub, just as often as he started games, but he was nevertheless a very vital player over the years .

And, just like our BJ, goal of his led them to win glory.

Madness to get rid imo, and that also since a change of manager soon seems quite likely to happen

Can he? I can count the number of defenders his dribbled past this season on one hand... I thought Kudus was a great signing but he's not improved us one bit... another 50m down the drain. Probably sell him back to West Ham for 30m next January.
