Ex-Spurs Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If Kudus is still our so-called best attacker in 12 month's time, we will have failed to progress one iota, in my opinion.

Much like Johnson is clearly unfavoured by Frank, I think other managers would look at Kudus, and decide quite quickly that they want to upgrade.

I cant make my mind up on Kudus

On one hand he looks uncoached, runs into blind alleys, holds the ball too long - lacks end product

On the other, what chance has he really got in our current set up?

Im still 50/50 on him. If we get a new manager in, an attacking one - I can see Kudus having all the same issues and getting expoosed badly.

I can also see him suddenly looking the absolute real deal with runners, support, players around him and in the box...

I saw him at West Ham and didn't think he was special, aside from the odd glory goal. And some of the dribbling we have seen.

I want him to do well because he is our player. What I don't like is the favouritism and presumption that he needs better players around him, amd yet none of that same argument is applied to Johnson, who definitively would score goals in a system more suited to his obvious qualities.

So I get it. New manager new ideas, and making decisions.

The risk is that the manager isn't right or the right fit. Then what? We have lost a goalscirer who just needs to be utilised differentky and instead got a blind alley dribbler. Strewth.

I would be willing to wager that if he moves in Jan, he will outscore all of Spurs strikers this season.

Selling a 24 year old, 20 goal a season winger feels like madness. Replaced by a guy that scored 3 in 24 games, and is gassed after 60 minutes. It's no surprise his family have asked for a transfer.

Let's shed some light on this "twenty goal a season winger" myth that you have appeared to swallow.

22 appearances this season 4 goals
51 appearances 24/25 18 goals
34 appearances 23/24 5

So we are talking about less than ten goals a season, or one every four games? If he stayed he wouldn't likely get more than thirty games as a starter so give him another 4 goals taking this season to 8 goals 10 at best.

Forest:
44 appearances 10 goals
53 appearances 19

At Forest a goal every 3.5 games.

That anyone in here is talking about the tragic loss of Johnson and his oodles of goals speaks volumes for the piss poor strikers that we have at the club.

Fact is if we are talking about keeping the likes of Johnson and to add Richarlison then we will never be a "top four side".

We simply have never looked to replace the number of goals in the side when lost when we lost Kane and Son.

Johnson is a poor winger, and Frank can see this up close, irrespective of whether he wanted him at Brentford or not. Johnson himself knows his limitations and knows that he will never get in front of Kudus.

Take the money while we can get it it and reinvest it.

What we have seen from Johnson as a winger is as good as it gets, which quite simply is not good enough.

Ive never been unfair to Johnson. I think he has his attributes, and his biggest crime is that he isnt actually a winger really - thats all. Misconceptions about what he is/should be.

I dont understand the aggression to him, thats for sure.

Kudus - well I make a point of NOT watching West Ham so I dont know a lot about him - at this time hes on probation for me, hence Im saying undecided. I can see he has talent, I cant decide if he is better than he is currently showing or not, yet.

The blind alley dribbler has 7 goal contributions, Johnson’s best ever was 15 whilst being a goal hanger who does nothing else. We are halfway through the season.

Kudus’ best ever (at West Ham) was 14. So at their best in the league they are about equally as productive except one gets the ball upfield, retains the ball well etc.

This whole ‘Brennan is a great goal scorer’ thing is based on one single season - in reality we are letting go a guy who has 2 league goals this season while creating fuck all.

What is he then?

A striker? Definitely not. Can’t hold it up. Can’t win aerial duels. Doesn’t bring others in to play full stop and his range of goals is poor - very one dimensional.

He is a wide player. He plays where an actual winger who can do winger stuff plays. He has his entire career. He’s just not very good at it.

Would Brennan have had more goals and assists this season if he had started all of the games and played with Solanke and Maddison I wonder?

Seems odd to judge him on what he hasn't done due to injuries to other players and exclusion from the team.

More an inside forward than winger, IMO.

A runner, not a dribbler.

Will finish more than contribute.

Bit of a niche player really, needs a set up around him to thrive.

And as I say, not really the player people want him to be, imo.

For me, I dont give a shit he's leaving, hardly like Im a great defender of his. I think he isnt a player to take us up a level, and us selling him is a positive sign from the leadership.

I can only hope Spurs management have got some kind of plan, as much as BJ infuriates me at times his goals have been incredibly valuable.
Kudas hasn't done enough for me
Tel hasn't done enough
Oderbert hasn't done enough
RKM hasn't done enough
But Johnson is first on the list to be sold... odd.

I think we will all agree that to do enough to prove yourself you have to play? Tel has played just eleven PL games this season many as sub and scored four goals, Odobert sixteen PL games, again many as sub with just one assist.

Odobert was the best player on the pitch at Palace, RKM is being played on the fucking wing? He was superb against PSG and in several games this season, has been injured and has had little support.

All three need a run in the team, and for the life of me I can't understand why Odobert and Tel can't get a look in on the left wing, it seems to me that Muani is played there just to satisfy the club for his loan payments. He scored ten in twenty two games at Juve last season, and the only way you lose that return is to move to Spurs, and get played out of position.

He would be insane to want to stay with this shitshow.

Maybe we are encouraging him to be shit to drive the asking price down?

Daniel would have liked that.

Maybe it would save everyone a lot of time if we believe that harry7 errored in not including circa, around or about in his 20 goals a season post?

Of course he has...
Five star country club 100k a week for another 18 months and doesn't even have to play

Or

Run down leisure centre, 100k a week and fighting relegation for next 4 years.

Simple choice.

To be fair, they are FA Cup Winners, Community Cup Winners, are playing in Europe and i believe are investing in a redeveloped stadium plan to increase their capacity by another six thousand.

Possibly will never be a big club, but where has being a big club got us over the last quarter of a century?

Oh, and we are closer to the relegation zone today than Palace are.

Kudus won’t change who he is and it was my one big worry when signing him. Frank’s usage of him also indulges all of his worst habits.

He’s physically a tank so he can get away with it most times, but he dwells on the ball far too long and doesn’t release it quick enough. Also his off the ball movement is rubbish.

He’s badly in need of a Poch-to-Dembele style intervention.
