"Bryan Gil. He’s a player I’ve followed for a while now, his recent transfer to Tottenham could be described as a marriage of convenience. I’ll put a few words together, dissecting his profile, providing my opinion on the transfer and how both parties can benefit, tactically.
The transfer in itself is very well constructed. €25M for a player of that calibre is top business, especially given the apparent ‘financial constraints.’ Lamela’s sale is another plus, he’s a tactical nightmare, Gil’s skillset is far more maleable.
Tottenham’s necessity for a right-winger dates back to 2015. Pochettino’s system didn’t require an orthodox right winger, hence the lack of emphasis on recruiting one. I described Lamela as a tactical havoc due to his limited skillset.
Lamela, albeit a faithful servant never had the technical or tactical quality to hold down a right-wing role. Lamela’s inability to carry outwards limited his potency out wide, his indiscipline prevented him from playing centrally. Gil’s an upgrade in that regard.
Gil’s biggest quality is his willingness to engage in isolated duels against full backs. Gil produced off the left but, his potential was barely seen due to limitations, in regards to angles. When carrying, he inevitably moved onto his left, giving full-backs spatial control.
Gil’s a player I’d best describe as a lock-breaker, I compared him to Kingsley Coman, due to their willingness to engage. As a high volume dribbler, he’ll be invaluable against low, settled blocks, when Spurs are chasing games. In this game-state, he’d be better off the left.
If the rumours are true, NES will utilise an asymmetric 3-2-4-1 in possession. I referenced the need for 1v1 specialists on the underloaded side, Gil fits a left sided role. Gil’s inclusion provides positional conflict with Sergio Reguillon though.
Playing Gil as an auxiliary #10 works, due to his comfort when receiving on the half turn + assertiveness when carrying. Gil doesn’t get knocked off the ball easily, without the use of brute force. He’ll be a foul magnet but ideally, he’ll need to bulk.
To best maximise his skillset; ball-striking, carrying & control in tight areas, he needs to play off the right. Gil’s comfort on the byline allows him to play with an inverted FB. His crossing ability from deep, paired with the quality of penetration Spurs have, will be a...
chance creation tool next season. Gil’s ball carrying over large distances is enhanced by his ball control, allows him to shoot without losing real balance/momentum. This adds a different dimension, his left sidedness enhances Tottenham’s attacking dynamics, massively.
Overall, Gil’s an excellent signing for Tottenham. If utilised properly, he’ll solve a lot of tactical headaches, which have plagued Tottenham for years. All shares appreciated, follow

Watched him off the bench against Australia last night… wow. Looked excellent, passing bit loose at time but looked like a fantastic dribbler. The Aussie commentators were practically drooling about how good he looked when he came on which reaffirmed my thoughts.
Only young and don’t want to get my hopes up but he’s made an excellent first impression on me (even though it came at the cost of Australia losing).

If he’s so good then how comes he can’t even start in that Spanish team? It’s not like they’re filled with superstars either.
Because the manager is playing Dani Olmo in his position. For his experience maybe, because he doesn't want to play with an out-and-out winger, who knows. But in both games Spain have looked a bit turgid until Bryan came on, Olmo particularly, so he may get a start on Wednesday vs Argentina
That is a very narrow mindset to use, no offense. Players fit better in different roles with different managers. Maybe he fits exactly what Nuno wants but Spain/Sevilla do not have a use for his talents out wide because they are looking for a different skill set?
Prob best you watch him play before coming out with stuff like that.

Hm, isn't he a bit wasted on the right wing when his best position is LW? And as a Son back-up he would be also wasted. So what's the plan with him?
Couple of sub appearances, followed by loan to QPR next season where he fails to impress. Stays on our books for the next 7 years playing 5 appearances on average a year before being shipped back to Spain on a 2 year loan with an option to buy for 2.5mil.
That or he makes the right his own and is one the greatest signings we have ever made, carrying us to our first trophy in a while.
