Competition Carabao Cup

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I don't think it proves anything. Pep is making some sort of public announcement for his own ends, whatever they may be knowing that the media will spend days picking over it.

I've had enough "Top 4" trophies. That doesn't mean anything.
This started back in the days of Wenger and Fergie: both head-coaches not bothering much about this competition by fielding their reserves and only fielding a stronger team if the went all the way to the semis.
Man Utd were even exempted from this cup due a Club world cup.
And later on Mourinho and Klopp also followed up on this "trend".
I have heard players say, "I want to play in the EPL so I joined this club" but I have never heard a player say "I want to join this EPL club because it won the Carabao cup so I can play in the Europa League."

Great, but they were all winning titles and trophies all over the shop. In the meantime we're a quarter of the way through the 21st century and we have one solitary league cup to our name. Apples and oranges.

They still all took it seriously enough to win. Apart from the Goons, who have a dreadful record in this competition. And it was the FA Cup United withdrew from once. Back in the 90s, and it has never been repeated by anybody such was the uproar.

What is their B side? They played without De Bruyne and (mostly) without Rodri at the weekend and dominated Woolwich.
I’m guessing no Ederson/Haaland/Doku/Gundogan/Walker/Foden as a minimum.

It will still be brimming with quality obviously like Bobb, Nunes, Grealish, possibly Savio, Rico Lewis. But if we go full strength, we can beat them - let’s face it, we beat their full strength side with fucking Nuno in charge, we drew at their gaff last season despite being decimated by injuries - we just have a weird amount of luck against them and I never rule that game out.

Their B side would finish second in the league without needing to resort to Legohead Murderball, again why I laugh when people say Pep's mugging that cup off.

Nah mates, Pep knows that his B team beats almost anyone anyway.

Few ways of looking at this. We'd probably have to beat City in this comp at some point if we want to win it.
Losing in the 4th round rather than the final is probably a blessing in disguise.
We should definitely put our strongest 11 out from kick off. No exception. Pep claims they're not bothered about it. Call his bluff.

I often see this claim, but I don't buy into it.

Far better to avoid City (and any other strong Premiership side) and hope someone else gets lucky against them. I'm all for us having the easiest possible path through any knock-out competition.

ps Matt - I know you said 'probably'.

You literally just said "we're as good as out of the Caraboa Cup", you plank.

Still today, when they are not winning titles and trophies all over none of the "big" clubs care much about the Carabo cup.
