Ex-Spurs Player Christian Eriksen

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I think it comes from Pochettino thinking our chances are better if we can force the defence out of position, which we can't really do from a corner.
So why do we even bother sending guys up for it or losing possession with a poor delivery to the near post. If we were playing every single 1 short and working into the box like Barca I'd buy that. I doubt Poch & co. are thrilled when they see Eriksen hit the defender at the near post while Chadli, Fazio, JV & Kane are all at the far post.

At least 10 hours of training per week (2/3 hours per day?) and we can't scrub together a set corner routine. Even at U15 level me and my teammates were drilled into attacking and defending corners.

I think we'd be potentially more successful if we could beat the first man consistently, with the likes of Fazio, Chadli, Jan and Kane in box. Goal away to Swansea shows if the ball is good and someone's willing and committed to attack the ball with purpose, it can get a side 10+ extra goals a season.

And last year we saw Eriksen essentially use Paulinho and Kaboul as mobile walls to score bank shots at the back post. I don't think it's a problem of Eriksen being unable to go beyond the first man, as he clearly can do that every time he wants to. I think it's something deliberately being asked of him. Which then leads to the question: What the hell are they trying to do?

I can't for the life of me what the could be planning for. We have no control of where the front man heads the ball and are risking losing possession with just the 2 full backs sitting back. Hopefully with Lamela back we start to see a bit more quality from our set pieces

Off the top of my head I would say 3. Dier against QPR (Lamela), Chadli against Villa (Lamela) and Kane against Swansea (Eriksen).

Bentaleb also scored from a corner against Newcastle in the league cup (Eriksen).
Every teams fans seems to think they can't score corners so I think it's quite obvious most fans just for some reason rate the chances of scoring from a corner much higher than they should. For a corner to go in almost always a mistake has to be made, Chadli's and Kane's goals being prime examples as both were off of horrific defending. So the actual numbers don't surprise me at all and I think we're better than most teams at corners in that we've scored from a few and I can't recall conceding from one this season.

We have conceded 2 this season West Brom (Sept) and Leicester on Sat.

We really must have a smiley from his Wiki-picture

Has nothing to do with a lack of skill or anything tactical. There was a mini-documentary on it, how the quality of corners have gone down hill and why this is. The main reason was that the corners of most grounds are very congested and the grass changes to AstroTurf (The camera cables are under here, using grass would mean you rip up the pitch after every game when they take them away)

You'll notice here that there's barely any room and that there's effectively 3 ground types, as well as a slight dip in height. This tends to mean players are focused more on their footing and their feet, trying to avoid potential injuries than on the corner itself, especially since we use in-swinging corners where there is the least space

In contrast, here's the corner at Chelsea, a team that tends to always be in the top three corners-goals table. You'll see that there's a lot more space, the ground is even and you can barely notice the astro. As a result, no matter who takes the corners, we're going to struggle; we've been poor for the past 6-7 years. Christian isn't the issue. Just another very minor reason why the new stadium would be a bonus.

Interesting. I wonder if the corners we have scored (and the two I mentioned from last year) were all scored at away matches?

Scored from 3 corners in the league this season; joint 7th-10th.

Home - QPR
Away - Villa
Away - Swansea

Chelsea, just to compare, have 8 out of a total of 51. Almost 1/5 of their goals are from corners. Ours is below 1/10.

He's just pure class. When you mix great technical ability with insane fitness and workrate you're going to get someone who produces special moments. Maturity and composure in abundance.
