Pope, Barnes and Wissa are as good as, if not better than any of our bench options.
Elanga and Livramento are very good.
Gordon would arguably start at LW for us.

Newcastle have always had some decent players, even under ashley, but it isn't the 'cheat mode' type signings that they would have expected when being bought by an oil-rich, cash laden owner. They're operating like a slightly more wealthy Bournemouth did under Howe, but not anywhere near signing the types of players that City did to scoot up the table.

Don’t forget City bought those players in an era where £25-30m could get you the majority of players in the world. Signing that type of quality today is like the kind of money they spent on Woltemade, but probably 6/7 more times to even begin to make their first 11 as good as 11/12 City for example. And that’s all before we even consider PSR.
It’s not that the appetite isn’t there, it’s just harder to move today for the clubs who didn’t get in the cheating door when it was still mostly open. It just costs way more from all aspects.
I'd have been more impressed if they had our window, and I think we'd have been unhappy with theirs.

Speaking as a Newcastle fan let me just say ... No.
An example of Players that we signed under Ashley; Cacapa, David Rozenhal, Geremi, Xisco, Muto, Riviere, Abdoulaye Faye... Even the better players like Cabaye, Ben Arfa, and Remy wouldn't get into Howe's side. It's genuinely insane that Schar, Joelinton and Murphy are still in the mix. But they're all playing the best football of their careers, elevated by Howe. Bruce didn't know how to get the best out of any of them.
The standard of player we've bought since the takeover is significantly higher than the overwhelming majority of players under Ashley. I can't think of many Howe signings that wouldn't immediately be one of the best players in whatever season under Ashley you choose.
Pope is way, way better than Dubravka. As is Ramsdale. Trippier is arguably the best right back we've had in the past 40yrs and there's no chance he's signing under Ashley. Livramento is outstanding, no idea why you've put him in this list? We signed Willock under Ashley.
Elanga, Gordon and Wissa were one of the better players for their previous team. There's no way they're leaving that club for Ashley's. No way. Wissa certainly isn't going on strike to orchestrate a move.
I can't speak for the other Newcastle fans, but if you'd told me that in 4yrs time we'd be in the Champions League for the second time, and our squad would be 'worth' more than double what it was in Ashley's last season and that we'd have won a trophy... I'd be cockahoop.

Trippier has been favoured over the likes of Trent and James for his country. Burn has been rock solid and now gets picked by Tuchel. Livramento will end up at Man City sooner rather than later. Gordon has massive potential... There's some genuine top players in that list.

I think Howe has done a super job at Newcastle, and dealt with the Isak bombshell really well. (What a cnut of a player by the way, for what he forced).
I put you slightly ahead of us,mostly because you have a stronger midfield than ours, as in options, but you rely on Guimares and Gordon. Any long-term injury, especially to your captain, who is on an amazing run of consecutive league games is likely to have a big impact.
It's how you navigate those last bits to being able to challenge for the PL that is your difficulty. You will excuse me for hoping you don't get there before we do.

The way Howe handled himself during that unsavory episode was superb. He can be a bit "High Performance Podcast" at times, but he's already up there with Keegan and Robson for me. I won't complain too much about Isak on here, we've benefited from players going on strike before. It's wrong and it shouldn't happen, but Wissa did it. Gordon did it. Cabaye did it. On the Newcastle boards I'd feel happy enough calling him every name under the sun, but the hypocrisy would stink up this thread if I did it here.
It's interesting to see you put our reliance on the shoulders of Bruno and Gordon. We see Tonali as the better midfielder and that Gordon really hasn't met the standards he set a couple of seasons ago. If Botman and Thiaw continue as they have been, we've an unreal CB partnership, and if Tino and Hall could hurry up and get fit we've really exciting young fullbacks. If the other attacking players work out the best way to play with Woltemade we could have a real chance of Champions League qualification again. But that's a LOT of ifs.
Realistically we're miles off challenging for the title. Our wage bill is reported to be around £10m below yours, and you're £50m-70m a year behind the current top 2. That's where we suffer. Had we the flexibility to offer Isak £300k pw AND attract Ekitike or Woltemade, then, sure, why not have a tilt at the title. But as it stands we're at risk of bigger clubs unsettling our best players and we aren't in the position to compensate them with phat pay packets in order to keep them. Despite all that blood money sloshing about.

Understand re: Tonali, and you will be far better placed than I am to make the assessment of his performance and importance.
Agree re: Gordon, who hasn't got to those same levels of a couple of years ago. Still very good though and an asset more than a liability.
I think we lack something in our midfield and worry that our attacking options are simply not good enough. I think you have to hope Wissa overcomes his injury quickly, or Woltemade might crumble under the pressure.
You are just ahead of us in my opinion but both of us are probably behind the main 4, of which I include Filth club (Chelsea), who always seem to find a way.
