I hadn't looked in to Maresca's resume properly, had just presumed he'd done well in Italy but holy shit this is a sensationally bad appointment. Sacked by Parma after 4 months in the Serie B then manages a Leicester side that's way too good for the Championship to promotion. Clubs are so desperate to get the trendy appointment now it's unreal, listening to fans on twitter too much.

Great for us though, between this disaster, a potential post-Klopp hangover and United keeping Ten Hag we should be good enough to finish 3rd in this league next year in all honesty. Then hopefully Pep leaves and we're well placed to build something. I would also say it's a huge moment for Newcastle who with a couple more good signings could really cement themselves as a regular European side which would disintegrate the 'big 6'. I already feel like we're witnessing that change because only once in the last 5 seasons has the 'big 6' been the top 6, in the previous five years before that it had happened four times.

They're probably focusing more on his work with City's academy due to how many youngsters they seem to be hoarding and his previous with Lavia and Palmer.

Its a yes man appointment that's full of risk. But Boehly has made it quite clear he hasn't got a clue what he's doing.

You're likely correct, but a club as big as Chelsea relying on City's hand me downs is crazy. The great thing is they'll shit the bed and sack him the second things don't go to plan right away then hire another project manager, and once again promise him he's the one that'll get given time. What a beautiful basket case of a club.

Also worth mentioning, he only spent one season at City's academy (then a year as assistant after getting sacked at Parma), so personally don't feel like he can take loads of credit.

He's barely much more qualified than Tim Sherwood.

Just noticed a familair name on his training staff from the Juande Ramos days. No ketchup for them!

Also following Maresca from newly-promoted Leicester to Chelsea are first-team coach Danny Walker, goalkeeping coach Michele De Bernardin, fitness coach Marcos Alvarez, analyst Javi Molina and development coach Roberto Vitiello.

It’s footballs Adrian Newey syndrome

All the teams employ his acolytes but none of them get a car like the next one he designs
