It’s just the way football has evolved. Clubs that are well run have a system of football, scout and recruit with an idea of how to play the game, the alignment maximises their potential. The managers are also products of that. They then go to somewhere like United or Spurs that is a shitshow and suddenly their system is out of place as the players have not been recruited for any system or are just poor. The manager doubles down on the system because it’s what he is trained and learned in and it’s basically up to the club to either back the manager and get the players to make the system work or get a manager that just works with any old shit.
