I don’t think the move to Spain did him any favours. He’s not really a technical player. The tempo is much slower there. He’s all action at his best, biting into tackles and getting on the end of things. Hopefully it’s just taken him some time to get used to playing in the PL again and we will see a better version of him next season.

Our Captian next season.

I think RDZ will do it.

Christ ..

He was exceptional tonight. It was also one match of football, against villa’s second choice midfield, who were powder puff and insanely disjointed, meaning his main asset (pressing intensity) was extremely effective as Villa had no movement or passing options at all.

The goal was excellent. His work rate was brilliant. Now we’ve got a good few games to play so let’s hope he can continue like that and not get dizzy over his performance in one match.

Also he'll playing in a very different midfield so I agree, but still t was a glimpse of seeing him in a de zerbi side I think

The bigger issue was who he went to.

Gallagher is a 10 whose best form came under Pochettino at Chelsea. He is elite at pressing in forward areas, he is not a sit back Simeone player, he has the heart of a Simeone payer but doesn’t fit the tactics.

If you play Gallagher you play him in a high press system. He is like Henderson in many ways. Gallagher was built to play for Klopp.

I honestly think he’d end up very quickly on the bench if/when we stay up. RDZ will end up investing bit in midfield I would think - probably someone long term to replace what Bentancur offers at the very least. I could see Gallagher being a handy utility player under him long term but nothing more.

What is it with the biggest wankers on here and an inability to live up to their own words. You said I wouldn’t hear from you again (aka utilise ignore) and yet here you are, being boring.

This is still a football discussion forum last I checked. It’s not a “just say everything suffolkspur agrees with” board. You can go make your own if that’s what you’re after - or stick to Twitter.

Your enjoyment of the win (and anyone else’s) is not attached to what I post. Or at least it shouldn’t be, if you are mentally stable.

Stick to “x have no chance as they are a rival and I say so” posts which immediately prove spectacularly stupid.

Simeone doesn’t sit back anymore. They’re a chaotic side these days, have conceded more goals than Barcelona who outright can’t and don’t bother to defend.

That wasn’t the issue. He was OK for them when he played in a 3 - he just can’t play in a midfield 2. He isn’t complete enough. And they have better midfielders, who can do more things. Which is ultimately why Chelsea sold him.

His pressing is elite though, top tier .. which is why Pochettino was a big fan, because despite his limits if you want to press high he will lead that every game and set that example.

Fair. Tour right he probably ain’t suited to a midfield 2.

I do worry about Athletico in the semi final though. Honestly if it wasn’t for the shit pitch and the Kinsky errors that came from it we could have beaten them, they got very lucky. Almost every side we have faced in the prem looked better than them and we have been total shit this season, Barca really dropped the ball not beating them.

They’re probably losing it, but Bayern or PSG are enough of a buffer that it’s not worth getting overly alarmed about yet. They are better than they showed in that second leg though - that was a prime case of a team who thought the game was won and switched off a bit.

Anyway - not for this thread!
