I don't accept this.

I think it is to do with the coach, coaching, tactics and data becoming the focus of attention.

From a Spurs perspective I first noticed this trend when Marcus Edwards route to the first team was, in my opinion, blocked by the academy coaching mafia at Spurs at the time. The one glimpse we got of him in a Spurs shirt, a home League Cup tie against Gillingham, suggested to me this player was not only ready for the first team but would quite quickly have become a crowd favourite.

Edwards was everything that Harry fucking Winks wasn't.

Skilful, tricky, good at dribbling, an eye for goal and could create chances for his team mates. His progression and pathway to the first team was blocked. I suspect this was done because Winks was a 'nice' kid, with parents who probably played golf or similar.

Edwards was then character assassinated as having an 'attitude' problem while young players from other clubs regarded him as the best young player in the country.

Traditionally the majority of the best English footballers came from working class backgrounds and honed their skills with their friends at school, in the rec, in the street and with their Sunday teams before the big clubs picked them up and began coaching them.

The modern system now coaches the maverick talent out of these players. The special players, that used to evolve naturally, and were given licence to play off the cuff, are now denied the opportunity to play unless they kiss the coaches arse, do all the running, all the tackling and all the tracking back.

The most talented players are now coached to run, press and keep passing rather than express themselves in the final third of the pitch as they once were.

In my opinion.
i agree that its become very system based now. but i still think the standard has gone down hill for footballers as individuals regardless of being about systems. im talking technique and creativity. you can still show some ability while being in a system. city players did just fine a few years ago...

regarding winks and edwards, both were never going to be good enough really, i agree that edwards looks far more talented than winks, but he is so small and when youre that small you need to be ridiculously good or extremely explosive, hes neither. same with winks, his game was about being neat and tidy, but he was so lacking physically that being neat and tidy when you are that physically deficient is nowhere near good enough for top level football, might be ok in league 1.

the irony is that the best footballers are usually small, but you have to be a freak talent, if not you just get gobbled up by big athletes.

Mason wasn’t bad. Gallagher isn’t bad either. They were/are both solid prem midfielders. Gallagher definitely has a *bit* more to him physically but neither are moving any needles.

But you’d never give Mason 200k a week. That would be really fucking stupid.
Pretty sure Romero is on 200k pw as well
Every now and then I just have to sit back and take those numbers in....
£200k a week.... Those numbers are worthy of a vidiprinter:

200,000 (TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND POUNDS)
....A WEEK...
...FOR ONE HUMAN BEING....

... TO KICK A FOOTBALL...
BOLTON WANDERERS (0)

...and to think we're not even paying the "really big bucks"!!

It's fucking mind boggling and disgusting that these obscenely rich human beings can systematically and consistently ruin OUR lives, without ever fully realising it!

The whole thing is fucked up

The wages get higher and higher......which means the cost of watching the games gets higher and higher.....the cost of Sky, TNT Amazon.

Believe me - pay per view for the biggest matches will be on the cards soon as they need to generate more and more revenue to keep the house of cards from falling.

The greed has become obscene

He represents the future of Tottenham Hotspur. Well, him or Crysencio Summerville.

It’s either vastly overpaid big club castoffs who aren’t bad, but certainly aren’t great either… or Championship heavy hitters as we endure relegation.

Unfortunately being a fan means they can ruin it. They can also win Europa League trophies and give 200k of us a reason to take over the city with a parade that stays with us our entire lives.

They definitely earn more than they should compared to the difficulty of their job but at the end of the day, if they earned less, I’m not going to earn more because of that. The way I see it, at least someone is earning good money.

The cunts need to start winning games and stop taking the piss out of us against our worst fucking rivals tho
