Firstly, those counter examples you give are completely irrelevant and totally different scenarios.
Woolwich got rid of Aubameyang because he was a bag egg prick.
City got rid of Joe Hart because they were backing their manager who believed he was signing a better goalkeeper.
And with the Liverpool one, injuries are something that recruitment teams cannot control.

Also, please don’t tell me you’re that naive to believe what Ali Gold says re the say our manager has on transfers. He has said pretty much the exact same thing for every manager we’ve had in the last few years. He’s a known mouthpiece for ENIC.
We were told Poch had the final say on transfers for years, how did that turn out?

I don’t have it in my head that Levy is a “mastermind” but to try and argue he still isn’t a huge influence on the football side of the club is just off the scale head in the sand stuff.

How predictable...a load of mental gymnastics and waffle...

You asked "What chairman/ownership that has even a smidge of the football side of the club at heart would operate like that?" in terms of leaving the manager 'high and dry' and I literally just gave you examples yet you're willfully and rather predictably missing the point .

The point I'm making is about choice and planning for the long term:

Woolwich could have replace Aubameyang with a striker in January - they didn't and chose to get Jesus in the Summer - long term planning

Liverpool could have bought another CB in January, they didn't and decided to get Konate in the Summer - long term planning

Man City could have kept Hart who was a better keeper than Bravo - they didn't they bought in a keeper who kept throwing the ball into his own net but he aligned perfectly with the way Pep wanted to play because he could play with his feet - long term planning.

We could have kept Sanchez - We didn't, we chose to clear the decks of a player who ultimately wasn't good enough and we will most probably strengthen that area in January - long term planning

lol You don't want to believe Ali Gold because it doesn't align with your narrative, cool, even though our manager has repeatedly said that they aimed to trim the squad down which was the priority.

You just need to accept that Sanchez was always out the door, we were trying to get rid of him all Summer and was always likely to leave - Ange came out in the press conference and said as much was happy for Sanchez to leave in the end.

Also quit with the strawman, no -one is trying to argue that Levy doesn't have an influence on the football side, we are talking about this Summer's transfer activity and how much influence Ange had over recruitment, the evidence is right there staring at you in the face but you're that desperate to have your biases confirmed - you ought to let it go mate.

Might not be popular here but IMO he's better than Toby/Jan. Jan had a decent bit more finesse, especially carrying the ball up the pitch and delivering a final pass, and he can't quite ping it like Toby, but as a whole package he's better.

Incredible combo of aggression, technique, and most of all just knowing how to land a tackle. The sheer volume of successful tackles he makes is something I've never seen before.

Don't think forwards ever feared Toby/Jan the way they fear Romero.

his timing with tackles is elite without a doubt. great defender, as you say has the right mix of everything that you want in a CB.

Ability he's got everything that they both had.

It's just about consistency and what he can achieve at Spurs now.

He's already won the bloody World Cup, his mentality won't be anything other than winning the lot. No skeletons or self-doubt.

And would I have been wrong? I can flip that and say no matter what happened with Sanchez you would have found a nonsense positive spin to put on it. You’re description of Sanchez as a deadbeat and unacceptable would be far more cordial.

The salient point here is, Ange wanted 2 new centre backs. He continuously voiced this message. It was perfectly reasonable to obtain 2 centre backs. We had just sold our best ever player for a record fee. We failed to sign a second centre back for our manager citing some nonsense excuse that we were unable to ship Sanchez out, to only then ship him out after the window closed to leave no senior back up centre back for our manager bar Eric Dier.

I don’t care how you try and dress that up. That is negligence and horrific squad building.
Stop making excuses for our ownership.

Oh, yea. How dare I to be positive of things when our team is in 1st place in EPL table, standing replicated by our U23 and U18 as well :D . But on more serious note -I am not making excuses. I told that things could have done better.

BUT vol 1 - please, show me direct quote by Ange where he said that "We have not signed 2nd centerback because Davinson Sanchez has not been sold." I'll wait.
BUT vol 2 - selling Sanchez in any possible way or context could not be considered a mistake.
It just isnt. We got fee for a player that is worse than random 18yo player from academy.

I get what you mean, but as of now this is not true yet.

You are currently comparing the highlight reels. And absolutely - Romero's highlights are more impressive than Toby and Jan highlights. One-on-one defending is most likely better for Romero as well. But central defenders should not be judged based by highlights and flashy tackles but based on consistency. And I think Toby went some full seasons without errors leading to goal. They were rock-solid partnership that kept our defense very well-organized. Also - yes. Most likely when confronting Romero as player on the pitch, this most likely injects more fear factor to attacker. But from the other side- what do you think if opposition attackers felt more confidence of there being more room and panic in our defense right now or during prime Toby-Jan era? I would bet that they are more confident finding room and some moment of panic right now.

I love Romero and I love Micky. But we are miles off the overall defensive level that we had under them. Not close but miles off. In 2016-2017 we conceded only 26 goals from 38 games. That is 0,7 goals per game across whole of the season. Even this season we have on 8 games, 8 goals and like 2 or 3 own goals already? That is sign of not-so-well-organized defense.

But when Toby joined us he was 26. Jan was 28 at the same time.
Romero is 25 and Micky 22. So they have room to form this better-drilled partnership and defense.

Man of the match for me.

Another cleansheet.

I think another good game and cleansheet and he could easily be in for player of the month.

Now theres a headline... Maddison, Son then Romero.

Excellent performance bearing in mind he wasn’t 100% fit!

Not at Toby/Jan levels yet but not far off and will only improve!

Plays at this level the whole season and it will be a better season than either Jan or Toby ever put together.

Toby had a season or 2 when he was clearly the 2nd best CB in the prem behind Virgil. On current form, Romero is clearly the best CB in the prem. I don't thnk it's really that close either.
