Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Exactly. There is some fucking nonsense being posted in this thread. If Romero leaves yous will know all about it. We haven’t had a shit house player like that in I don’t know how long. He took the complete and utter piss out of one of united biggest players in that final. We just never had players like him in the past. A complete and utter cunt. If he leaves we are losing something we have taken decades to acquire. A born winner.

And that is the thing with winners, they can be cunts at times but you live with it because they are winners and the things they are cunty about are winning.

Atleti aren’t spending the 70m it should take to get a player who wins you major trophies, so they shouldn’t get the player on the cheap. Levy won’t accept either and I respect him for that.

Where I don’t see it the same as Levy is the contract offer. Don’t mess about with a slight raise, match him with other CBs of his generation that win you trophies. Give him 250k pw, make him captain and tell him you are signing a Forward and 6 that are on his level

The simple explanation to me is that he thrives in knockout football. He's at his best when everything is on the line. But him being able to translate that to league football seems to be a bit touch and go.

I think if he was playing for a Real for example he would be on it every match because its a disaster if they lose a game.

He does thrive in the big moments, a big game player if you like...a rare find for a player of that kind of ilk.

Monumental waste of money for a player that can’t stay fit and dialled it in for several appearances last season. Turning it on in the final does not make him a player you build the club’s future around.

He’s nowhere near committed enough to the club to be offered the captaincy either, with constantly twerking in Spain’s direction and mysterious injuries suddenly clearing up in time for international duty!

He had an incredible season the year we finished 5th in Ange season 1.

If you can get him committed to a new contract, that’s what he’s worth easy

I am a massive Romero fan and think he is one of the best CBs in the world , and his passing is the best of any CB. However, if he is agitating for a move, flew back to Argentina rather than attend the Brighton game / lap of honour, and is going to do stupid things like his post on instagram less than an hour after we announced Thomas Frank, then he needs to be sold. Frank famously has a 'no dickheads' rule and if Romero is going to be a dick head let's get rid quickly.

One of the reasons people defending Ange us to excuse the last season is that "our centre backs were out most of the season".

Romero is out for a good stretch most season. 100 league appearances in 4 seasons is averaging 25 per season, meaning - on average - he missed 35% of league games. He has averaged 32 total appearances per season since his first full season at Genoa. Van der Ven is also similar, and has average 25 games per season (20 in the league).

You can't build a defence around two players who are so flakey. Granted, you could say it is isolated for VdV under Ange, but not the case for Romero based on previous managers, so it leaves us needing to - effectively - do what we did with Dragusin and sign another CB who has to sit around and wait for one of the pair to have their inevitable injury.

Have a feeling both will be much more available this season

Ben is staying another season -- which you would think Frank must have green lighted -- we now have 5 senior centre backs, plus Gray who has done a decent job there and 3 young players that all have a lot of promise.
The first choice pair is clear though, and Romero is the best defender at the club. If he really is determined to leave that is one thing, but it would be madness to push him out.

Bizarre take!

You want your best players to put in their top performances week in week out otherwise you get nowhere in the league, not just saving it for one off games!

Romero was putting in top performances week in week out in Ange's first season, it's just last season he was playing dog...probably because he was done with the club and want focused and wanted to leave by then.

The way I see it is if he signs a new contract then that's a sign that he's happy and will get back to a consistent level, not just play well when he feels like it.
