I'd argue Vicario, Porro, Udogie, Van De Ven, Maddison are all players that are of better quality than the ones they replaced.

Not disagreeing with the ones further back but I feel like we've turned a bit of a corner in actually replacing players with quality. That said how do you replace Bale, Kane and Modric, turned them into the best players in their respective positions in the world.

Impossible job that and a bit of a nonsense argument.

I don't think any club is able to replace world class players unless you're top top bracket clubs.

If Edwards had stayed with us and identified VVD, and Alisson at a time when we were regularly finishing above them, do you think Levy would have gone out and signed them for what were record transfer fees at the time?

The injury record is unbelievable I agree. Whatever they’ve done to build that sports science department is also an area that allowed them to structurally overtake us with superior infrastructure for the football club … but that’s a state pet of this debate imo.
Spot on, and it doesn't necessarily have to be VVD or Allison specifically but similar level players who could have been the missing pieces to get over the final hurdle.

The sums spent don’t tend to equate to quality where we’ve been concerned, and we’ve tended to be more successful output wise when we’ve actually spent less.

We went big on N’Dombele and GLC who were unmitigated disasters, whereas the Modric, Toby, Dele transfers have been much more successful.

That’s shit scouting combined with Lo Celso’s case pairing him with the likes of Jose and Conte.

The lesson learned is not that we shouldn’t try to buy elite players but that we should scout better and have them fit better into a structure.
