Its not just him. From an earlier corner, their player easily went in between Davies and Dier and almost scored with a header as well, while Davies was marking no one.He is as good as useless.
Signing a centre half that can't defend crosses is like signing a goalkeeper who can't catch the ball.
Genuinely fucking pathetic that there are plumbers playing in Sunday League who are more convincing at heading the ball than Romero.
They're all as shit as each other and the most annoying part about it is that they know what they're supposed to do. When they scored, Davies stared at Romero and it was written all over his face. Almost as if "Conte has told us to sort this shit out over and over and over again, and yet again, we've fucked it".Its not just him. From an earlier corner, their player easily went in between Davies and Dier and almost scored with a header as well, while Davies was marking no one.
Please don't put him and Ledley at the same level. Not worth the 42 mil. Not yet, at least.
If I'm correct, I think he's only started 11 games in the league. I don't buy that "he's been unlucky with injuries", not just with Romero but as a general rule. Keeping yourself fit is part of being a great athlete. I'm not saying he doesn't live the life off the pitch, but the fact is, he's played nowhere near as often as he should have.
Two of his 12 appearances in the PL resulted in a clean sheet...I'm no maths wizard, but that sounds like a low % to me, but obviously he's not the sole culprit. The last 2 goals vs So'ton and the Mee one vs Burnley are mainly his, though. And there are another few games where he didn't shine that brightly. I think there are actually the majority, but yeah on a couple occasions he looked really good and many on here got all unreasonably wet about it.
He's more assured than our other defenders on the ball, he can dribble and pick a pass, he's got that grinta that's so typical of South American players so he does put his foot in.
But he's also wasteful with the ball, his positioning isn't great at all times, same for his concentration...and obviously his aerial ability is very underwhelming. He's won 60% of his aerial duels, which is 10-15 pts lower than a VVD/Thiago Silva...and he's ranked only 50th amongst defenders in the PL charts for aerial battles won. There is even a fair few FB ahead of him, and they tend to be smaller than he is. Not very positive signs...
All taken into consideration, I wish we weren't obligated to sign him, especially for 42 bags. But it's too late now, it's done cause the conditions that were in his loan contract have been met. So he's with us for the foreseeable future and we just gotta hope he becomes worth the money. But as of now, I think he'll turn into poor man's Ledley.
Ledley also took the odd look around himself to see where the fucking opposition players were while defending. Please don't put him and Ledley at the same level.
Ledley could actually read the game and sense danger.
Like last night when he actually let Coburn in front of him for the goal?Ledley also took the odd look around himself to see where the fucking opposition players were while defending.
Romero loses men he should be tighter to far too often.
Ridiculous comparison. Your spot on.Like last night when he actually let Coburn in front of him for the goal?
Or when he constantly lost Mee against Burnley?
Or when he totally lost Wilson for Newcastle's first against us?
Or his worst one ever against Man Ure when he actually looked at Cavani running through and then proceeded to run away from him?
He's also been making a lot of forward runs in the last three matches, then taken ages to get back into position when he's not in possession (even some times when we don't even have possession an longer). I don't know why Conte isn't putting a stop to this. We are shaky at best at defending; we don't need a CB that's forward of the MF half the time.Generally like his aggression and he’s great on the floor and at defending one on one but definitely seeing some worrying signs when the balls in the air.
Here we go again?

Trouble as I see it is too many defenders are more concerned about stopping attackers getting the ball than making sure that they (the defender ) gets the ball first
it's a mental issue because with atalanta he was good on set pieces too
Big decision in the summer, I believe his fee is around £40m, I’m not convinced that’s money well spent

Hmmmm saying that Rom could turn into poor man's Ledley ain't putting them at the same level?!?!Please don't put him and Ledley at the same level.
