Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He missed 13 league games last season through injury (which is apparently half a season)

Our record in that time:

10 wins
2 draws
1 loss (Chelsea at Stamford Bridge)
8 cleansheets
8 goals conceded

We'll be fine.

Meaningless stats if we don't know what fixtures we had during that run. And people don't want us to be 'fine', they want us to be exceptional enough to make that step up. You don't do that with the backline we will have without Romero.

I'd legitimately be happy if we paid a Bastoni level fee for Fofana. He's one of the biggest CB talents in his age group I've seen.

But with Chelsea circling probably a no go, and he might be even more expensive.

Skriniar is the defender I really love plays at RCB for Inter mostly but can play LCB and CCB when needed. Rudiger level, unbelievably solid but I doubt Inter would consider unless £70m plus gets thrown at them. He would be worth £70m IMO, I do like Fofana and Koubaliy, but Skriniar for me is just that level above.

Fixtures he missed through injury:

Wolves (A) - Won 1-0
Leeds (H) - Won 2-1
Brentford (H) - Won 2-0
Norwich (H) - Won 3-0
Liverpool (H) - Drew 2-2
Crystal Palace (H) - Won 3-0
Southampton (A) - Drew 1-1
Watford (A) - Won 1-0
Leicester (A) - Won 3-2
Chelsea (A) - Lost 2-0
Woolwich (H) - Won 3-0
Burnley (H) - Won 1-0
Norwich (A) - Won 5-0

I think it's quite obvious that with him in the team, we are a better footballing team. But defensively, we aren't much better at all.

We just defend well as a team regardless. like all Conte teams do. The issue without Romero is the lack of being able to pass out from the back. Not that we're worse defensively.

Skriniar's probably better right now (I say probably as I really haven't watched much of him, I just know him mostly by reputation) but I think Fofana has genuine world class CB material. Got pretty much everything there. Even right now he's one of the better ones in the league.

I thought Skriniar was off to PSG anyway? Or did that fall through.

So in the two fixtures we played vs high level opposition who weren't down to 10 men for the majority of the match we conceded 4 goals. The rest of the fixtures were incredibly kind, which is lucky but unlikely to happen again.

I mean christ, that's Norwich twice in there..

Think it’s a money thing. Sounds like Inter if the papers are right are putting hints out they would sell for the right price.

Unlike other prior targets like Bremer I have seen a lot of Skriniar. He is outstanding one on one and he is a leader. Reminds me of a larger more powerful peak Toby.

His aggression is also vital. One of the players in our team who we can rely on to not have one of those days where he coasts. When he makes a huge tackle or marauds out of defence it sparks the crowd & prevents us from getting complacent.

As a unit we're good defensively so I wouldn't expect it to collapse. But we have a handful of genuinely top quality players who make a difference in matches and he's among that group.

You wouldn't find anyone disagreeing with the notion that Romero is one of our key players and one of those you'd put in the top bracket at the club.

I just don't think it'll be much of a big deal to us defensively as it showed last season.
