Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

On a second look, Vicario played a nonnegligible part in this actually. Kva was clearly baiting him to pass it to Romero and he gladly took the bait, instead of a lob pass to Porro where the margin of error was large enough considering how open Porro was. But then that's the norm with him: Either passes the buck to somebody else or hoofs it up.

A simple half turn to his right would've given Romero a clear angle to make a routine pass to Porro. He instead did an unnatural turn to the centre to allow Kva to cover the passing lane to Porro, which had been the pass all along.

Look how open his right side was. Just turn there.

.. Did this instead. The pass to Porro was still on mind you, especially for a player of his ball playing ability. Just slightly more difficult due to Kva being in a better angle to defend it, and the PSG player running at him.

Started panicking, and eventually decided to pass the buck to Sarr who was smothered before the ball even got to him.

Yeah I know, infinitely easier to sit on your chair and call players out on the decisions that they have to make in real time under mitigating circumstances. But then, like I said, that turn is so unnatural that I cannot get my head around it.

Exactly what I said - when Romero got the ball initially, the obvious action was to turn left to open up the right side of the pitch for him (especially on his stronger right foot). Even when he made the wrong decision, and remained largely facing the left side, he could still have passed to Gray who didn't have anyone within 10 yards of him at the time. Usain Bolt couldn't have intercepted a half decent ball played to Gray at that point.

At zero point in the history of football EVER was playing the ball to Gray in any possible way "the right option".

Please just stop...

Also for the benefit of yourself AND BJK the reason Romero didn't turn left to open the right side of pitch was because he didn't want or expect the ball in the first place. If he had wanted or expected the ball he would have scanned his options and seen that option, but he didn't because he was pointing for Vic to send it up field - as that's the way we generally play under Frank. Especially as Bents was not showing AND GRAY was COVERED ffs.

Obviously Vic didn't see anything upfield to punt to so chose to go short. Again because he doesn't want to be accused of just cowardly giving possession away under no real pressure.

SO Romero takes the ball; takes a defensive touch because he doesn't know his options; sees Sarr showing for it and plays a normal but not very well executed pass to Sarr who should have punted it first time but didn't and was FOULED.

Jesus christ. It's a very very mundane piece of play where everyone is slightly at fault - including the fucking ref.

Move on.

Picking were slim, but making our most erratic player on the field the captain is certainly a choice.

Hard not to see his personality reflecting his play. Which is absolutely not what you want in a captain. Now the players are fighting with fans and maybe the manager.

He has a few months to turn it around, but I think he'll be gone this summer for a good fee. He can be brilliant in a finished team, but I don't think he is the leader we need. He's a bit of a luxury that we can't afford because we don't have the basics.

This paragraph is spot on. I will die on the hill that he’s a brilliant player but I think you hit the nail on the head with this. He is perfect for a team needing the final piece, not the building block.

He was so pissed off with Bruno that he copied his celebration for both goals and barely cracked a smile throughout. Then having a pop at him after the final whistle too, love it.

Once again our centre backs having to score the goals is a bit of a worry mind you.

Funny because he was pretty shit this match and first half he was atrocious, yet he scored 2 and PSG he was actually better yet we conceded 2 because of him, tells you how people judge things on moments and not performances.
