Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I don’t actually care. I have sort of emotionally detached myself from the Romero drama.

It’s sad though, few seasons back one of the best performing CB’s in the league with a wild side now just a walking red card in the big games or positionally all over the shop. He has such a good passing range and press resistance but totally checked out. You can’t have someone like that as the captain.

Listened to the TFC podcast yesterday and one of the guys called him the best centre back Spurs ever had. Or the most talented, don't remember the exact phrasing but laughable regardless. Didn't bother listening to the rest of the episode after that.

Fucking hell that is actually mental. He objectively is nowhere near as good as Toby and Jan and he doesn't have half the talent King had. King was better in every single attribute you can possibly think of.

Biggest load of bollocks i'vs ever heard. Must be edge lord engagement stuff. If he's a newer fan Romero is miles behind Vertonghen and Toby, obviously King as well. I'd probably also say Woodgate when fit. For us older fans you can add Roberts, Mabbutt and Gough minimum. The fact most would rather keep VDV speaks volumes as well.

Yep. Even Dawson was more dependable let's be honest. Agree Woodgate was better too. But in terms of Jan, Toby and particularly King, Romero is not even in the conversation.

King is the most talented CB I've ever seen play the game IMO. Not an overreaction. He was majestic. Just a shame about his injuries because he was every bit as good as Ferdinand and far more talented than Terry. He should have got 100 England caps.

Henry saying he was the best CB he ever played against says it all.

Oh and a note to Romero, King never ever got booked. Let alone sent off. He didn't need to, because he read the game so well, and tackled with such grace, he never needed to foul. He's in a different universe to Romero.

Clearly ‘one of the guys’ was Phomesy Phomesy or dustybin !

:rdsfacepalm:

I saw him clean out a young Michael Owen at Anfield and put him out for a couple of months.

Let’s not rewrite history. Ledley was a great player but he didn’t walk on water.

King was the finest English CB I've ever seen and if it hadn't have been for his knees, he would have been one of the best in the world.
He didn't have a single weakness in his game and was a joy to watch, a majestic defender and I'd honestly rate him up with Maldini for talent.

There is no rewriting of history. King had an impeccable discplinary record and was one of the cleanest CBs and tacklers I've ever seen.

Football is a physical contact sport, so Owen getting injured was just one of those things. Owen was made of glass anyway.

You are rewriting history by saying he never got booked as he was ten times. One yellow every 32 games is mightily impressive, but still more than zero.

Capello sang his praises, even taking him to a tournament knowing that he wouldn't be able to play two games in a row.
I can't remember the exact quotes but he raved about Ledley as one of the best he'd seen.

Plenty of top players have claimed him as the best CB's they've played against, including Henry.

Yep. It was particuarly cruel that a player of such unreal talent was cursed with bad knees. The fact he couldn't even train during the week, he'd basically just swim in the pool, and then play on the weekend and put in a man of the match performance up against the best attackers in Europe says it all really.

The guy was a freak in the best possible way. Not only was he such a world class defender, he was brilliant on the ball too and could ping unreal passes with both feet. Such was his talent on the ball England even played him in DM/CM.

He was phenomenal and definitely for me the best CB I've ever seen play the game. Only reason he doesn't have the same hype as some others is because he played for us and we didn't win or challenge for major trophies, unlike Ferdinand and Terry.

If he hadn’t got the knee issues we have to be honest and say he would have gone to Real Madrid or somewhere. His knee issues meant we could keep him.

I think it was Fabio Cappello that used to call up the club asking about King’s fitness all the time even though he had Terry and Ferdinand.

Mabbut is still my favourite ever Captain. Although it might be due to him being Captain when I started following the club but what a guy.
I got to have lunch with him and watch a game from the old garry mabbut suite in the old ground. A proper gent and spurs through and through. I’d flown into london the night before and had to meet my dad and his business colleagues at the stadium. I went clubbing in brixton with my mate. Slept in his couch. Had a tramp shower and had to buy a polo at the club shop.

Haha no, you are misinterpreting. I wasn't literally saying he was never ever booked, of course he was booked, but it was exceptionally rare for a CB. His displinary record was examplary. One yellow card basically every season is fucking ridiculous. And I believe he was never ever sent off.
