No idea if this is available for those overseas.

First broadcast on the BBC Home Service in 1961.
Danny Blanchflower, Captain of Tottenham Hotspur and of Northern Ireland talks to 4 minute miler Roger Bannister and writer Brian Glanville about himself and way of life.

In 1961, Danny Blanchflower, 35, was about to approach one of the highlights of his career in the season in which Tottenham won their first 11 matches and when the north London club became the first since Victorian times to achieve the coveted League and FA Cup double.

Danny answers questions about his early years and love of football. Known for his strong views about the game, he describes the system as too restrictive for footballers to have freedom to play and develop. In 1961 British footballers earned much less than their counterparts in Spain and Italy

Launched in 1952, Frankly Speaking was a completely novel and ground breaking BBC series. Initially there were three interviewers and the series was both unrehearsed and unscripted.

That Parkinson interview is the first time i have seen Danny speak at length.
Watched it last night as someone put it up on one of the spurs groups i am on.
Was shocked he was considered a rebel and trouble maker who saw the writing on the wall 42 years ago.
Very interesting and intelligent man.

Will try to access when I get home as it's not available on Malta, but thanks for posting.

He was another great player who never cut it as a manager, he did OK at Northern Ireland, expectations were low but then Billy Bingham took over and took us to two World Cups on the bounce with pretty much the same squad...

He was a great speaker and had a great mind though, taken from us far too soon by Alzheimers...

Danny Blanchflower - busts the myth that all footballers' brains are in their feet!
Shame he never managed us. The rumour at that time was that Bill Nick had him marked as his successor, but the Board went for Terry Neill instead. If Danny was seen as a trouble maker, then you can see why that decision was made....... a bad one, none the less!

Not sure about that, he was at Chelsea and only won 3 from 15...mind you, he couldn't have done any worse than Neill...

Ive been told that Blanchflower scored a "Rabona" penalty ... never been able to find a video or find out if there was any truth in it though. Anyone else know or heard?
