His brother Jackie was one of the Busby Babes, was injured and had his career ended in the 1958 Munich air disaster.

That's them as Northern Ireland internationals.

Well if Utd could win for The Busby Babes on Saturday, then the LEAST we can do tonight is mark the occasion with a victory that would've made Danny proud!!

Do you think the club even KNOW??

Some nice coverage of Danny’s centenary in the media, on the club website and in the programme.

Nicely tying together both end of his career (and my two footballing loves), the Glentoran programme also featured Danny on the front cover yesterday with a newly colourised photo of his early days at the club: Glentoran Gazette Preview: Danny Blanchflower Centenary Special - Glentoran
Way before my time but one of the players who installed the fabric of our great club and why we have high standards.

Danny's the reason I support Spurs.

I started supporting Spurs in 1960 from New Zealand - the reason was that as a kid I used to read the Daily Mirror at my grandparents with a particular focus on UK sport.

At that time Danny was regularly featured in the Mirror and (although I was a rugby union player) I decided that Spurs would be my football team and one day I would go to White Hart Lane. That I did 15 years later when I lived in North London (when Pat Jennings was a hero in goal). On a one day visit to London last September I visited the new stadium and purchased Spurs jerseys for two of my grandsons.

So, to me, Danny will forever remain a huge influence on my sporting interests.

I never knew this .Amazing
I didn't know myself until about 2 years ago when someone irl told me that Danny had played for Manchester United, so when I got home I checked and found it was his brother, and read a bit about him.

His Kidneys had been crushed in the incident and one of his arms had been nearly severed.

Apparently Manchester United were cunts to him and chucked him out of the house (they provided their players with a house to live in but the houses were owned by the club).

Mike Donovan’s authorised biography “Danny Blanchflower: A Glorious Life” has hit the shelves, and I can highly recommend it. Lots of fantastic personal stories and insights from team-mates, colleagues and fans, and is structured in an innovative way featuring these personal tales as chapters.

(It also has a chapter named for my dad, a photo of my son and a quote from myself, but don’t let that put you off :baletroll: )

What was your relationship?

They called them left half, centre half and right half.
They always played 1-2-3-5 with John white often dropping back...

No direct relationship at all, the author reached out to Glentoran last year to seek more information on the early days of Danny’s life and career, my dad does quite a bit of Glentoran history so was able to contribute a lot. The book has a bit of an innovative structure with chapters based around players, fans etc so he ended up with his own chapter. And we sent a photo of my son outside Blanchflower Stadium where he trains and often plays, he was delighted to see it feature! Finally the author was looking for quotes on what Danny means to Glentoran fans so I was happy to contribute!
