Ex-Spurs Player Davinson Sanchez

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Ajax fan here. I think this deal is just a matter of time so congrats on buying potentially one of the best CB's in the world. I feel he is better than Jan and Toby were at Ajax although at the same time I don't think they are that comparable. Toby and especially Jan were at Ajax maybe a bit more technically gifted defenders, Sanchez is a very physical player but on the ball also pretty decent. Few years younger as well than Jan and Toby were when they left.

That probably won't happen. Although Ajax doesn't want to sell him, if he wants to leave (what seems to be the case) the club is probably open for negotiations. Nobody benefits from having a player around that doesn't want to be there (maybe Southampton disagrees on this). The only thing then left is for Tottenham to agree on a fee with Ajax.

He was left out because the manager decided he only wanted players around that were 100% focused on the match. Clearly there have been some talks between Ajax and Spurs, but apparently he had a chat with Sanchez first before leaving him out of the team.
The players we buy off Ajax are all very disciplined and that's a credit to your club and how you play your football!

Class post. Good luck in the Eredivesie (did I spell that right?)

How about what the club owes the player? He came to them, both club and player knowing and hoping it would be a stepping stone. They get to make a fortune from benefitting from his services for one season, and are receiving a tremendous fee for a defender at that level.

It all depends on the situation. Sometimes the club owes a player (imo after a few season of loyal service) but sometimes not (yet). In the case of Sanchez I don't feel Ajax already owes him. In all honesty, Ajax also doesn't need the money hence why they can ask for such a high fee.

So in the end the club only will lose a very very good player who is almost impossible to replace. Ajax can't just buy anyone obviously as the Eredivisie isn't as attractive as the EPL and Ajax neither can offer wages that are going around there.

It is also a little bit frustrated to see a player leave that soon. But as said, if he wants to go I'm sure the club will let him go.

Great post.. high praise saying he's potentially better than Jan or Toby..

One question - Do you have any disliking toward us as we do seem to sign a lot of your great players?

Physically I already rate him higher currently. But he isn't perfect by any means yet. He still has quite a few moments where can act so energetic in his play that it is almost reckless and he starts making errors. He did that also a few times against Nice in the CL play-off we God knows how lost on away goals.

Not at all any dislike from me towards Tottenham, I actually like how some players as Toby, Jan and Chris developed there. I feel Tottenham since a few years really took a great approach on their transfer policy with the focus on developing young talented players. It's very similar to Ajax, great to see.

It's Eredivisie. But thanks ;-), we will need it. Lost our opening match yesterday.

Do you always love to rub people the wrong way with your constant negativity and over-exaggerations?

Cheer up a little mate!

People? Or you?
Again, I'm happy.

I'm the one who can't wait for the game remember.
I'm the one who doesn't think that it's all shit because we haven't signed anyone.

I've been looking forward to this match for weeks.

We have "a weaker" squad than last season in your eyes remember.
It's a disaster to start the season with no RB remember.
We need signings.
And even when they come, they had nknpre season.

It's all shit to you mate......I don't need cheering up.

Good man.. I got talking to 3 Ajax fans at one of our games last season. They were genuinely interested in your ex players.
It wasn't their first game either as they seemed to know a few pubs in the area.

You are a very well run club with a great fan base. Thanks for the update on Sanchez.

Superjoden! it's annoying that's how transfer markets are nowadays but players are more merchant this days

hopefully we'll meet in the CL.

It's how it's been for a long time. Cruyff didn't spend his career at Ajax in the 70's either.

Clubs, such as Ajax, should always sell their players if big clubs from better leagues come calling with reasonable bids, just like Scandinavian clubs should sell to Ajax if they come calling with a reasonable bid.

It's fair to the players who put in the required effort to reach the top, and it's how the clubs can survive and make sound financial investments in new talent, staff, youth and facilities.

As a Swede can confirm. The only Swedish team to hold onto a major player over a longer period of time right now is Malmö. The rest will almost always sell if a team like Ajax comes calling. Or any dutch team for that matter

Again thanks for your contribution. Some of our support (can't speak for everyone obviously) have always had an affinity with Ajax because of the Jewish connection and the great ex-Ajax players we have playing for us at the moment.

Good luck in the new season. COYA. COYS.

I understand what you're saying here, but I don't like the implications. You seem to be saying that clubs and players should all behave in a way that preserves the status quo, one that gives teams the biggest teams in world football the inalienable right to look upon smaller clubs as feeder clubs.

I know we might struggle to prevent players wanting to join Barcalona or Real Madrid, but we shouldn't feel compelled to sell.

As a sentiment, it's on a par with teams like Barcelona thinking they should be guaranteed a place in the CL regardless of whether they qualify or not.

Do ajax have an awesome young RB too?

As Gascoigne8 already points out, we don't. Ajax just recently bought this youngster (also from Colombia like Sanchez) to strengthen the position of right back.

Onana, de Ligt, van de Beek and Dolberg are the ones to keep an eye on in my opinion.

These are indeed a few players that are very talented, but none of them would be able to currently add anything to the Spurs team I think. Not even Dolberg who is sometimes a bit overrated in the sense that a lot of fans of European top teams saying they want him at their club whereas I then question if they have even seen him play for more than one match. Dolberg is extremely talented but still has a lot of work to do, at this moment he wouldn't do any better at Spurs than Janssen does imo.

Ziyech is our best player, he perhaps could add something to the Spurs team. He is class, but recently said in a fan Q&A he would love to play for Woolwich so not sure if that would be a good fit.

To the list of talents you name I would also add Justin Kluivert and Frenkie de Jong, especially the last is extremely gifted. Reminds me of Eriksen but probably even a more all-round player.

In the end this is how the whole transfer thing works isn't it. 99% of all the players want to get the most out of their career and dream to play for one of the biggest teams in the world. Imo there are maybe three to five teams out there who are guaranteed of aiming for all the prices every season. If a player wants to go there you can try to talk with him as a club in an attempt to make him stay, but refusing a player that wants to leave a transfer isn't a solution I think. No-one will benefit such a situation (look at recent evens with players like Virgil van Dijk and Ousmane Dembélé at Dortmund).

Or Sam Larsson at Herenveen. That's turning into a right shit storm
