Defoe vs top 4

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

nope, VdV hasn't scored against either Manchester club or Chelsea either.

Because I'm in a good mood today I won't call you a shit cunt for the JD character assassination.

Haha! :D

I wish I had the time to check the number of appearances without a goal.

Point of the thread though is to work out whether it's really worth starting him vs City. Impact sub for me.

Is that part of his appeal?

He's too old now tbh.

Sorry Windy, but those stats don't prove whether or not we need him. It'll be Savic and Lescott, Defoe might be able to get a goal.

I know mate, I take your point on that front.

Personally think we'd be much better off with a front three of Bale, vdV and Lennon, and an extra worker in midfield to give Silva something to think about.

Harry will play Defoe.

Defoe should only ever play alongside Adebayor IMO. Not against him playing vs Wolves - he has an excellent record against them.

Lies, damned lies, and statistics

We have been breaking records and stats all over the shop, they mean nothing anymore, the team mentality has changed, we are a better unit.

give him a go

Do they mean nothing? He is generally marshalled easily by the good sides.

Defoe has scored against City before, even when they were decent. I remember a cracking goal he scored in the 4th place year when we won 3-0 at the Lane and Niko got the other 2.

And Thelonious is right, Defoe could get some joy against Lescott and Savic.

he is easy to pick up, but he seems stronger and can hold the ball a bit better, iv always said he seemed better after he came back from a leg injury as he obviously works in the gym on his upper body, he comes back stronger.

id say with the players behind him always moving and working, let them pick him up, he doesnt necceserily have to touch the ball to make his inclusion worth it if that makes sense.

if we dont start him, i think we will lose him

Defoe isn't subtle, doesn't have much guile. However, I've seen VdV get frustrated and become anonymous in these kind of games. He's underperformed against both Manchest clubs and against Chelsea. Does this mean he shouldn't play either?

Not being facetious but that seems to be the logic here.

All I'm going to say is I reckon those cunts down the road from us would bite our arm off for someone who can finish like Defoe.

Chamakh is about as much use as a cock flavoured lollypop. Probably why Wenger rates him.

As a finisher, Defoe is insanely overrated. I'm always hearing about him being a natural finisher but he's absolutely fucking dogshit at 1 on 1s. The best finishers tend to gobble up those chances. He snatches at so many chances, very frustrating player to watch who won't start for a better team than us.

However, given our options up front, I wouldn't be averse to seeing him start next week.

Think you've made some good points there tbh.

I still think we have more chance of winning without him, but I can see why Harry will start him.
