Had to sign up to specifically tell you that if you think Bentancur is a “technician” and “comfortable on the ball”, you either have very very low standards (no offense) or you are in for a big surprise whenever his first fifteen minutes of form are over.

I’ve watched all 180-something games he played with us, half of them live at the stadium, and I hardly remember another supposedly decent midfielder being so terrible with the ball. He will lose possession regularly and he will cost you games. Only chance of playing him is by giving him zero responsibility whatsoever with the ball and possibly have someone decent next to him he can refer to.

He had some positive stretches with us as well, just enough to give you hope, then years would pass and you’d still be there hoping.

There was a time when he looked like a crack, but he turned out to be too poor with the ball and too lacking in positional awareness to make it in Europe at high levels.

Maybe Conte can revitalize him, otherwise you get what you pay for (in this case, a 20 mil reserve).

Kulu on the other hand has promise and I was sorry to see him go. He can do well in PL. A bit weak mentally but there’s Conte for that…

Yes our standards im CM are very low.

I read that it was that he had to play over half of the games. 15 games is a bit light. Is it 15 starts.
We need to be able to control the appearances so we don’t end up paying for someone we don’t really want. The way it’s going he might get 15 appearances in by the end of this season.

Look at our midfield being able to pass a ball, not accurately or with any quality, is a major upgrade on the plugs we have. Our standards are incredibly low for MFers right now.

Thanks for the inputs. If he can walk and talk and doesn’t trip over his own feet, he’s an upgrade at CM for us. Besides Skipp, who is a 21 year in his first season in the epl, we have relegation level CMs and that’s being kind.

If you have any other CMs at Bentancurs level, we’d like them as well.

Maybe our midfield has been crap for so long he looks like a world beater compared to what we've had to witness over the last 3 years or so so in comparison he looks comfortbale and an actual technician, I'm happy with what I've seen so far anyway.

I reckon we could probably treat him like a rented mule and still send him back. I don’t think the appearances clause is likely to be the decisive factor 😞

This is why i laugh when some of our fans don't like criticism of our own players. At clubs with actual winning mentalities their fans would have been going fucking ballistic if they had to spend 5 years watching Winks and Sissoko.

We're one of the most patient fanbases in the world because there would have been wars at other clubs if they had to put up with the shit we do. Especially given the prices we pay to watch that shit.

And there is a direct correlation between that and the owners getting away with keeping players long overdue in order to - perhaps - salvage some transfer fees, when what football considerations dictate is getting them out ASAP to make room for new blood.

Look, we are not exactly stellar at midfield as well and indeed Bentancur was not the worst we had, considering his low wages (Ramsey anyone?), still we were happy to see him go.
I think he is a decent MF for a mid-table team or a rotation player in a better team but that’s about it.

Kulu on the other hand has potential and a style of play that can suit the PL I reckon but I am not sold on his mental strength and personality. Again, if the deal goes through and we get 40mils total for him, we are happy. If he comes back and we get 10 mils for the trouble, we are still happy. This is a Paratici style kind of deal, get used to it.

Seriously, good luck with Paratici though. He used to be a great scout but in a managing role he has been a disaster, although our board of directors surely did not make things easy for him. We used to be one of the top 5 teams in Europe before he got control, 2 years later we are here struggling to qualify for the Champions League. Now that he’s gone, we’ve had the first sensible market session in 2 years.

Best of luck for the future and I hope I can come watch a game in your unbelievable stadium some day.

Thanks for this insight, helps to add weight to much of what I fear about these signings/this director. We're definitely in a very dodgy place with Paratici and not a single one of our transfers so far has remotely impressed me.

Nah, we're a clusterfuck now and will be until Levy either tears up his playbook and appoints someone who knows what they're doing to run everything or just fucks off and we start from scratch.

I fear it's going to get worse before it gets better, if it gets better at all...
