Really feel for the lad. The club haven't announced a specific issue outside of a "patella injury" (which is concerning in itself tbh) but IF it's significant cartilage damage under the patella then it's genuinely worse than an ACL injury. Cartilage doesn't regenerate well at all and he'll live with intermittent pain for the rest of his career. The fact he's having injections into his patella this late on sounds a little bit like they're running out of ideas/things aren't going to plan.

Really hope he pulls through. A quality player when he's on it. Going through this sort of shit at 25 is so fucking rough.

Definitely seems like if he is going to continue playing he has to get the Ledley treatment. Minimal training and just plain rehab and pain management between games.

Just a knock mate...

had a layman’s read on patella breaks. So the recovery itself is probably already done but the main problem with this injury is the inflammation even after the bone has fixed and it can vary from 1-9 months but normally around 3-6 months and it is very hard to tell how long it will be. Therefore he could be back next month or next season. This is why he got the anti-inflammatory injection.

This injury is so rare... honestly, when he gets on the grass he will quickly know if he is still the same player. I reckon it's no better than 50/50 if he ever plays again and I don't think that is dramatic.

In fairness, squad size limits and ever increasing numbers of games are the issue here.
We can't have a squad of starting 11 players and all the clubs that play in Europe are having injury nightmares.
Annoyingly the only ones that have really swerved it this season are them up the road.

IMO, with European comps expanding there needs to be larger squads.

Expanding the European comps is merely the straw that broke the camels back......

Covid condensing 2 seasons + winter world cup meant no proper season/break cycle for 3 years.
Then add the advent of the Nations League (more international games)
Then expand the CL/EL
Add the EconfLg
Then add club world cup.

More interruptions.
More travel.
Ever increasing athletic intensity.
More players playing through 'twinges' in lieu of other missing players.
Less holes being plugged by kids as the stakes are too high.

It's no wonder players are breaking down with increasing frequency. Even if we're not solely talking muscle/tendon injuries; you're just increasing the likelyhood of in-game incidents (impact injuries, twists and bad falls).

I said this 2/3 years ago.

Is it any wonder the football sucks these days.

Think this is being wildly dramatic
Like me, you're intitled to an opinion. Lesser injuries have done for players but if he doesn't play this year, you're talking near on 18 months before he plays a meaningful match (can't see him playing for Sweden between now and the start of next season). Would not be surprised if there are a few more setbacks and then the inevitable hanging up of boots. Hope not. Hope he comes back and plays to a high standard again. But longer this goes on the worse it looks.
