If Luis Diaz is your first choice signing, a fast, right-footed goalscoring wide player.

Then how is a slow, left-footed, non scoring, central player your next option?

This signing smacks of getting a lad in because he was available and cheap. No real strategy or thought behind it other than that.

A right back (because each of the two we’ve signed last two summers have been flops), a creative midfielder (because our record £60 million signing from just over two years ago has been a flop) and a back up striker were the most obvious and pressing priorities in January.

We filled none of those positions so Paratici is scrambling around on last day needing a few signings for the sake of it, to save face. The only trick he has left up his sleeve at that stage is to take some of the deadwood his old employers Juventus are trying to offload.

An utter shambles.

I think his a decent option who could turn into a very good player so have no issue with us signing him, but he is not going to sort out any of our glaring problems which are all behind the front 3. Yeas I know the front 3 were shit today but overall it's behind those players where the biggest issues lie

One thing I did enjoy was having another player who can actually control a football. He's painfully slow and a bit awkward but he's got technical ability. Him in the most advanced midfield position with Skipp & Bentancur behind him seems like the most interesting midfield setup we can manage. I still don't get how he was ever signed as a wing back or RW option though.

This lad might have some ability about him, but that doesn't help when you are seemingly miles away from the pace of the Premier League.

Doesn't look like a good buy from the on field evidence seen so far unfortunately.

Such a great post.

Completely exposes the ineptitude of ENIC

(I don't think for a second he was 2nd choice. But rather that ENIC couldn't land our 2nd, 3rd, 4th and god knows how many other between Diaz and Kulu).

Our "transfer strategy" is a literal, digital equilant of Redknapp and Co driving about, wheelin' and dealin'

Don't be silly. We're far too slow to be driving. We walk. With plenty of tea and biscuit breaks on the way.

Still, he is a player with cult potential.

May I suggest a name for this church: Call of T'Kulu.

I offer my services to thee as high priest. That may concern some of you, but I assure you I will be perfectly able to balance it with my duties as Founder and Chairman of Lady Karren Brady Appreciation Society.

From what I see thus far. Seems like he's more suited for being the central point of the team attack. He's more an attacker than a midfield playmaker. He can only have that luxury playing for club like Parma, or Swede NT. Tasked with more defensive responsibility and support 2 or more attackers, it's too much for him. It's like that at Juventus, and looks to be the case now.

Hope I am wrong because it doesn't look good right now.

I don’t think it’s the dumbest idea ever tbf. He’s obviously got a football brain and half decent technique.. which we are seriously lacking at the moment.

The jury is out obviously but I think given time he will add a bit of creativity once he settles in.

We 100% needed a player like Bentancur(*)..... Unless of course you're one of the few here that was actually happy to start Winks & PEH together against Southampton?

(*In fact we need another one too!)

Part of the problem is, our supposed squad overhaul is in an awkward middle stage.

We got rid of some deadwood, (albeit temporarily for now), but not all. We still need to rely on Winks, sessegnon, Doherty, Emerson, davinson. They need to all be gone and replaced.

We only brought in two players. Thankfully they seem up to the task, for now, and hopefully more so with some bedding in. But we're in need at arguably 5-6 positions of similar talent (and higher level) if we're to actually compete for league and cup honours.

It's shocking that we have done as well as we have under conte. But our squad level is that of a top 8 team, not a real top 4 team.

The uproar is fair. We were title contenders not too long ago. And not a single level of squad devolution has happened as quickly. Arguably United, but they have a stronger squad and just can't seem to figure out their management woes since Fergie.
