Ex-Spurs Player Dele

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I think Mourinho really fucked him up...and himself too in reality.

One of those players at their best when they were being instinctive instead of overthinking. Gave us some incredible memories.

Mourinho did nothing. Much as I can't stand the self-promotion of the bloke, the sad and inescapable truth is that Alli was already well.on that downward spiral.

We have seen it before but to go from so prominent and so damn good to all but disappeared in such a short period is quite astounding.

Mind you Kalvin Phillips, whilst never getting near to Alli's level is another example of how it can go so dramatically wrong in what feels like a blink of an eye.

Reasons? Who can definitively say why, but it's a lesson to all.

But it's a long time left in life to try and find another purpose.

Alli was always a confidence player. Like a lot of sportspeople (more so in boxing) - when they lose that confidence then they can fall away quite dramatically. Alli was always the best player at each level he played, and by far the best at MK Dons, so when he rocked up at Spurs he nutmegged Modric in his first big debut match and just kept playing like that... until he didn't.

Of course his struggles outside of the pitch are well known now, but I think the biggest issue was self-doubt.

Get him to end his contract with Como today, re-sign him tomorrow, play him in the No 10 role on Wed. Gets a brace, we beat Utd...boom.

Nah seriously I'll hope til the day he retires that the kid can find his mojo again.
