Player Destiny Udogie

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

So, it took quite some time to reach U-dog thread. On like 4th page or so.

I read in some other topics something along the lines that "if we do not push on we risk losing the top talents such as Bergvall, Vuskovic and Udogie" (might not be 100% accurate) and I smirked a bit to be honest. And thought to ask from others what is your view of Udogie at this point in time.

Cause in my view he had a really shit season. And at this moment, in my books personally, he is not even a starting player. Last season Udogie was supposed to be this attacking wide player with slight side quest of sometimes defending too (in which he still somehow kind of failed - made mistakes one on one and just failed to get back). But despite that he returned ... 0 goals and 1 assist. And beyond those obvious metrics, he did not really brake forward with needed urgency either. By the end of season Spence was far better player there - basically both defensively shaky but Spence carrying the ball and attacking with purpose.

I am not saying that Udogie is shit footballer, nor we should write him off or sell to first bidder or anything like that - absolutely not. Last season was a shitshow all around and everyone who are dedicated and determined should and will get a new chance. Just that somehow his performances last season don't get too much attention in my view. Hope he returns back to his best under Frank though.

Everyone had a shit season so that doesn't mean much...slate gets wiped clean as far as I'm concerned.

And RE:Spence he even went backwards after 2 months of good form so I'm not sure he did overtake him in the end.

Regarding Spence - in my view despite obviously better performances Ange still used "his guy" Udogie whenever possible and while Spence was performing better, he had to play with 2nd string mostly.

But at least Djed should be very much in picture going forward now. In start of last season he was totally out of the picture.
Hope that this pushes Udogie forward as well!

Destiny didn’t have a bad season when he was fully fit. He had an injury hit season and struggled when coming back from a massive operation. Then did his hammy.

When he came back from the hammy, he was absolutely outstanding. Probably him and VDv up there with Romero for our most important players to win the EL

Part of the whole shits show was Ange clearly did not pick players on form he firmly had his fans, from Destiny to Cuti form has to matter.

Agreed he was good in final stages of EL. Specially final and SF.

But across whole season he had stinker. Come on, his main aim was to offer attacking threat. He had absolute zero of that. No carrying, no dribblying, no crossing, no assists. Across whole season he was poor as heck.

Again - this does not mean he should be written off going forward. Just reflection of his past season.

People just assume fit to play after a huge operation should mean back to top form.

It doesn’t work that way, especially for a player who’s gifts are driven by their athleticism

It's a whole new season coming up and everyone can prove their worth under the new gaffer, I can't wait to see what they all have to offer in the new set up.
Re Spence, there's a lot to come from this guy, even the fact he's now putting pressure on Udogie from where he was as persona non grata is a huge plus.

If we acted like a 'big club', like Liverpool, like Chelsea, like City, we would now go out and get a starting quality LB e.g. Robinson from Fulham perhaps. Bish bash bosh, thank you very much. Alas, we will probably get "Thomas Frank is said to be very happy with Djed Spence and feels his versatility at playing either RB or LB will be crucial in the upcoming season. It is thought that even Van de Ven will be a useful option at LB".

Its getting to the point now I think if some of these guaranteed starting players keep getting injured for another season with a different manager and medical team etc we have to start moving them on.
Porro is the only back four player that stays fit consistently.
