Player Destiny Udogie

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

pretty clear he's not back in his best shape physically. Mad to suggest he can't be a very good LB. not been too impressed with him in some stretches of games this season but he's 21yo, I think he can clean up his game a lot going forward.

Udogie is 21 and is learning harsh lessons in front of everybody. We seem to go through this cycle with literally every young defender. What you see is a player with great promise still learning his trade. Nothing more, nothing less. He’s a microcosm of where we are at in the Andre/Lange project in many ways.

21 is not young enough to get a pass on not getting goal side when defending. hes not a little kid. this is very basic stuff, if hes not doing it at 21 then what makes you think hes ever gonna learn it? it should be a natural instinct to get goal side for all footballers. its common sense.

He gets goal side many times per game and makes several vital defensive contributions. Apparently played most of his youth football at midfield and then as wingback. I dunno, I think players at all levels keep learning things and improving their game well into their 20's. I'd agree though, he's not an intelligent defender, but he's very physically talented for the role.

It's obvious he is a fantastic young prospect what have these people been watching cant be Spurs for very long. I remember Walker getting the same pelters at the same age ditto Rose. The cries of play Corluka, within 18 months with coaching we had the best fullbacks in Europe. The same folk would have sold Walker and kept Naughton who was positionally better he was right side and bang average. Young players need time and support I fear for Mickey Moore I think we should start a book who writes off Moore first?! He's going to have to be prime Ronaldo day one.

He is a young defender but he should know how to defend at 21. He has no pride in defending if his life depends on it. He’s so passive in how he defends and it’s costing us.
The 3 goals in the last two games that he’s had a massive impact on are basics and not doing his job right. The first goal at Brighton is maybe one you give him the benefit of the doubt because he’s not expecting it but the other two goals players just go by him too easily and don’t have to do much to get by him. There’s no intensity in his defending in our defensive third but watch him be aggressive when he presses high up the pitch. If he can do it in the attacking third then he can do it in the defensive third. That comes down to pride in defending and being a good team player. He needs to get that in his game quick because if he does he can have a great career. If he doesn’t he’ll fade out of top level football.

Spurs fans have this thing they do where, if a player does end up being quality for us, they memory hole the early struggles that player went through, and instead pretend the player was always performing at that top level.

Our head coach isnt particularly interested in defending. He genuinely isn't that fussed. It his ethos pretty much.

21 years old is still young WTF are you talking about, even the alleged 'best CB itw' Saliba got the wrong side of his man and got done yesterday, it happens and it will happen to young players...especially since Destiny who isn't a natural LB learns to adapt to that position.

Mug take after mug take with you isn't it...

Done well with the assist yesterday but he really isn’t good enough if we want try and mix it with teams in the top 5 in the next few seasons., should try and sell in the summer

He is more than good enough to play for us, but he needs a kick up the arse like Madds. I don't believe it is a fitness issue. He is excellent at tackling but he needs to realise he will not win every single one.

Absolutely mental take, to be honest.

You realise this kid is 21 yrs old and a full Italian international. He's already shown he is more than capable of being a high level premier league player, and easily has the potential to be one of the best in his position.

But yeah bin him off in his 2nd season because he got lost on defence a few times... Crazy.

Maybe Ange should rotate Udog a lil more to give him a reminder that he needs to keep improving, as well as more time to rest, recover and focus on training?

I don't see any reason Spence shouldnt' be getting a few more minutes, and Udogie's somewhat inconsistent performances suggest he shouldn't necessarily be getting automatic starts each game.

Wouldn't have surprised me if Spence was on course to start yesterday but got an unfortunate groin injury.

He can’t defend.
