Operation Don't Cha Wish Your Left Back Was BAE

sawxU.jpg

I never doubted you Benny, but I'm guessing a few people around here feel like cunts, now.

I wasn't looking on Twitter but, is it correct to say a story came out that Benny said he likes playing in the Champions League, and subsequently a load of fans including some TFC posters sent him abusive tweets?

I'm surprised that people posting on here did that, because aside from the OTT hatred of Redknapp it seems like quite a balanced place.

that made me laugh... cos harry really is a cunt...

This whole episode was an eye opener, I'm not bothered if fans don't rate him but it would appear some actively hate him which is bizarre.

A decent left-back isn't easy to find and with Evra having an indifferent season, logic would dictate that Baines would go there and not Spurs. Which leaves us with the task of unearthing another BAE which given our current scouting system, won't happen.

I found BAE infuriating until about midway through 09/10. Then I started my life as a social media whoring Spurs fan and was converted (I also learned more about him and grew to like him more via his biography). It seems like others have not had their Road to Damaspurs moment yet regarding him, as I can't believe how many times I see him referred to as a "muppet", etc. Go to his twitter and click on the replies he gets to every tweet. Three or four shots of vitriol seems to be the bare minimum.

Then there's the hate the Disco Benny bot would get that was aimed at the player himself… let's not even start with that…

fair enough but if we do land vertonghen we will at least have somebody to play there in the interim if the need for a new left back arises. problem is also none of the young players coming through the ranks play left back so we would be on the lookout for a great player to sign from the get go, which would no doubt cause rose to sulk (not that it really bothers me).

More importantly why do a large number of Spurs fans STILL believe whatever some media cunt tells them? How many bullshit stories have we had about us over the years? STOP JUMPING THE GUN! :bmj:

This can't be levelled at just Spurs fans, it is just the way football has become with the internet and journalists being easily being outed as chancers.

I stopped looking at Newsnow about a year and a half ago, my life is infinitely better for it - nonsense, rumour and out right lies.

But - we listen because we are interested, it's the same with films (for me) I read Empire Magazine and I like to read what may or may not be in production. That said, I don't engage in conversation with people about it afterwards.

Even though he was mis-quoted, the fact remains he was quoted - he hasn't said that the story is a complete fabrication.....

Best to treat everything with caution but don't be fooled into thinking that Assou-Ekotto will forever remain a Spurs player because that's simply impossible and one day it'll suit both parties to move on.

What player won't say they like playing in the Champions League or at successful clubs though? OK, Rafa has come out and said he wants to play for Spurs regardless, which will only increase the yoghurt fest he rightly induces, but most players come out with the same old shiz when talking about these issues.

I know that, if I was a player, and had said something I felt to be entirely innocuous, the experience of a bunch of my team's supporters calling me a cunt online could only reduce any affection I had for the club.

I dislike Modric because of the chelscum thing, but as a whole I felt us Spurs fans behaved correctly amid the whole saga - by singing his name even louder at the Lane. (Not that he ever seeks any rapport with the fans whatsoever and so in his case I'm sure it made no difference).

BAE was quoted in the anglophone press as being in quite a similar position as Modrić last year, talking of bigger clubs and the like. The anglophone press made it sound like BAE was pushing for a transfer to a bigger club à la Modrić.

But the interview from France Football (and from Ragemag) clearly indicate that he's not pushing for a transfer, that he likes where he is, but that he wants the club to realise its ambition and not be content with a plateau of around 4th.

So he wasn't "mis-quoted", but, rather, the quotes lacked context. Twitter blew up thinking he wanted out yesterday, when really he was saying nothing more than most people on this forum. And that's basically all there is to it.

I don't. Every player has a price and most have a goal they would like to achieve whether it be at their current club or elsewhere. My whole point is that time and time again we see things connected to Spurs that are either utter horseshit fabrications from an individual or endless selective or misquoting that changes something that is matter of fact into an "I WANT THIS/I WANT OUT" story. Every window we are apparently selling our biggest names and signing every player in the known universe, yet even though 99.9% of them end up being complete and utter bullshit a load of us still buy into them.

It was bad enough back in the day when it was just newspapers trying to fill column inches but now we have a stream of lying assholes that claim to be Spurs fans that are desperate for a bit of attention that claim to be "ITK"..... that a number of us buy into (general "us" ) and Twitter that could have one moron claim that one of our players eats babies and it will still spread like wild fire.

Is Benny a maverick? Of course he is, pretty much every footballer is whether they are willing to admit it or not. Did he deserve the abuse he got from people claiming to be Spurs fans? Not in the slightest he's arguably been more "Spurs" than most of our homegrown players.

And Dannyboy you are right it's not just Spurs fans, but in the same token with the Spurs:bullshit media ratio you'd think we'd be a lot more restrained than other sets of fans before going on the offensive at someone who has spent the last 6 years at the club.

That is a fair point...then again, I think coating off your own players where it is public knowledge (twitter not a spurs forum) is shocking behaviour and tantamount to treason....do your moaning among yourselves and put a united front on in front of others

This. I was uneasy with his skills around his own area but I came to love it, I don't know whether that's because he started having more success with it or because I began to see the entertainment value.. Now I love it.

I think he got better, and I also think the team got better. Hard to be cross with a guy for blowing matches when your team is not in the habit of losing a bunch. What do I know; things were clicking.

That bot got suspended for excessive unprovoked @ing, but is now back, though silent.
