It’s a bullshit comment from Ange. We absolutely need to have viable rotation for the fullbacks in his system or they’ll end up as broken as our centre backs. To date, he’s preferred (for whatever reason) to put square pegs in round holes when it’s been forced on him through the injuries that the training, the system or whatever it is has saddled him with.I think the honest answer is Ange didn’t seem to think much of him, based on whatever it was that made the last few managers also not rate him - I think last night he surprised Ange by what he can do in a game when called upon, as it appeared his performance against Coventry didn’t get him an extended chance.
I’m hoping he gets further more consistent chances moving forward now, but I’m not buying the ‘we just haven’t had room to fit him in’ type line.
club investment game time prioritization:I think Ange just sees developing Archie as one of his / the club's biggest priorities, and has been willing to sacrifice Djed's minutes for that.
No that's a nonsense. They are not either or, Archie Gray is 18. What I see on various issue is a coach whose ego gets in the way. There's no guarantee Gray has a higher developmental ceiling than Spence either.club investment game time prioritization:
20m Djed / 40m archie
1/3rd game time / 2/3rds game time
Should make sense, no?
Lets see how he does against opposition that is not Southampton.Vibrancy. Drive. Pace. Freshness.
The lad brought a huge bundle of traits we’ve been low on.
A couple of times he motored back to challenge, then made a decent challenge. This feeds others to do similar, like Lamela used to bring.
TBH, I thought he was a wrong 'un.
But in pre-season he looked good and I am surprised he has had to wait so long for a start.
Almost faultless on both the right and left yesterday.
Great attitude running back to help out defensively if moves broke down and he is SWIFT!

We have a bit of cover at full back, well that’s news to me![]()
Unbelievable comments- does he really think we are so stupid as to believe that? Or is he really so stupid as to believe it?
Lol ya sorry was just playing a little bit of devil's advocate with the OPNo that's a nonsense. They are not either or, Archie Gray is 18. What I see on various issue is a coach whose ego gets in the way. There's no guarantee Gray has a higher developmental ceiling than Spence either.
Ange boxed himself in with some strange choices then seemed loathed to unpick the mess created. Spence in all honesty looks as able as the two fullbacks that have been flogged in his stead ...he may prove better in terms of all round game than either because the defending of both Porro and Udogie on occasion woeful . My mate taken to calling the horror and you-dodgy.

Said the same with him in the back line and VDV you have two players who can get back and cover. Porro doesn’t have the pace and destiny the awareness.TBH, I thought he was a wrong 'un.

Cover! Where? If he means gray then he’s talking BS! Gray is CM by trade. He could have put him on v bmouth instead of Porro but chose not to. You never know he may have a made a diff with bursting run down the right. All on Ange.Unbelievable comments- does he really think we are so stupid as to believe that? He doesn’t believe it. All managers talk shit in press conferences, no idea why people take it as face value. Clearly there’s an issue with Spence (not a footballing / ability issue).Unbelievable comments- does he really think we are so stupid as to believe that? Or is he really so stupid as to believe it?
