Player Djed Spence

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Conte was a total twat, seemingly out to screw everything up the second last season finished. So Spence may well turn out to be decent, but tbh, top managers usually know who is or isn't good enough to bother giving a chance.

Despite everything, I feel Mourinho got it right (except Dier). The ones he refused to use never managed to prove him wrong.
Again I have to point to the board, if Spence is so great why buy a 3rd RWB?

Gil wanted to leave on loan and now he's in the Europa cup final with a shot at winning more than Kane and most of our side, that's a hugely successful loan I would have thought, Spence seems to have done OK at Rennes. White and Sarr are players with potential but we were a side gunning for CL football. If we want to give young players a chance then Mason seems the kind of coach we should go for. I don't know if Slot will give more chances to young players tha Conte did when he's under pressure to qualify for the CL.
Your missing the point. Gil was refused a loan by Conte and finally loaned out as was Spence these robbed both of developmental playing time. As has been pointed out he did not give enough minutes in cups and he was openly dismisve, he talked up white and never played him. As for the we were going for top four, he never believed we would pull that off and couldn't engineer an exit quick enough.

Didn't give him a chance because he was playing politics with the board, he didn't even play him in the Cup matches, Jose did more for our youngsters than Conte.
Given how he's doing with Roma, it backs up my view that we screwed him too. I genuinely believe we were one real CB (even Romero) away from getting top 4 in his final season.

He was a twat in some ways, I wanted him out long before the cup final. However, in hindsight, he did much more with much less. We bought Joe Rondon when our back line consisted of an aging Jan and Toby, and a hapless Sanchez. Fucking ridiculous.

They've had developmental playing time imo more than if they stayed with us. They play in the cups or the league and we lose then he gets shit for that too. It was the board that decided to replace him with his assistant so they are the ones who wrote off top four. I'm happy to be a club that gives young players a chance in the first 11 an tries to develop them but I'm pretty sure that means not making the CL for now and the board and most fans won't except that.

By the time he had his tantrum; it was over.

Porro was a good signing regardless of Spence.
Have to remember that the club was still expecting Paratici to choose the next manager at that time so continuing with the same squad construction still made sense.

The good thing for Spence is that he played well in a back 4 in France so should come back a better prospect for whatever the new coach wants to do and Mason helped out big time by looking at Porro further forward.

With Royal looking great as a RCB/RB hybrid thing, an area of the squad that looked like a hot mess, now looks like an area of strength.

With Spence, Royal, and Porro one of them has to go and it’s probably going to be Spence. Unless we bring in a manager who plays with a right midfield position.

I agree. But I just think we might need to raise funds. Although if Porro is used as a winger going forward then we do need another right back.

I'd hazard he has exactly the same flaws as Porro; only perhaps more positionally ill-dsciplined.

........I still remember his cameo this season (Forest in the cup?) where he sent our shape (Kulu in particular) into a complete tailspin.

Nah, he can defend. Apparently pocketed Mbappe in France because he had him covered for pace and absolutely shut down Martinelli.

Was very decent defensively against us. Just a bit young and loses focus on positioning sometimes.

1v1 and for Pace, he's like Kyle Walker was at that age.

Porro moving forward means Spence can play both further up or as the RB if we play a 4.

Tbh RB/RCB/RWB/RW is looking OK.

Hmmmmm.... I to assume Porro & Spence at the same time would just get in each others way.....

I'm not convinced Porro is the answer as a genuine Wfwd (maybe he 'explodes' into being one next season; tough to predict)... What works right now is the false FB thing we have going on with Emerson..... A straight back 4 may wreck that.

There's a lot to like about Porro, but he (in his current form) leaves us playing 'square pegs'.
