Maybe that’s the button that Ange has found he needs to push to keep the fire burning in Djed?
From the outside it seems obvious that you take Djed over Forster, no question. But there are things and reasons we can’t know.

If he stops picking him for Prem games on the bench then we will know that Djed has probably blown it again

Maybe. But maybe he’s just a bit of a dick, and a bit champo, and the manager doesn’t really want to reward it.

We won’t really know. But he’s consistently just seemingly not that rated by coaches for whatever reason. They all seem to make him a big part role or get rid asap.

I'd say it could be a lo celso situation where Ange is talking him up but in reality he doesn't fancy him at all

Erm no, I think that if he was rated to any reasonable level, he’d be making Europa league squads. He isn’t. There’s probably a reason for that lmao.

Squad players get in to European squads. He’s clearly not trusted to do that. That’s not being made a whipping boys, it’s just facts.
 
Spence situation is actually the fault of both Conte and Poch - neither of whom made much of an effort to bring Club Trained players into first team - and that restricts the total number of players we can have in EL squad.

Under EL rules we can have a maximum of 21 players in the squad (overseas trained and HG) plus our Club Trained goalkeeper and any List B youngsters .

So Ange had to make a choice as to which player in our 22 man 'Overseas and HG' player squad (one player more than allowed) as to who would not be in EL squad. Ange choice was Spence ...... not my choice but someone had to miss out.

Its worth remembering that if Spurs get to EL final Spurs play 15 games in EL whilst if we go deep in PL< EL and domestic cups we pay in 69 games - so to put another way Spence is still eligible to play in 54 games for us this season. And that's probably more than Spence, or any other player in squad will likely play.

So Spence will probably be playing a fair number of games this season - just not in EL.

But why bring him off the bench before Ben Davies twice in a premier league game?

Davies can play CB so i guess that means we can expect VDV to get rested in Europa pretty often but then we have the question about LB.

No doubt Ange will explain it on Friday.

You are interpreting facts to suit your narrative and it's pretty obvious. As evidenced by the loaded and utterly speculative use of the word 'trust'. Just not sure why it's such an entrenched one. We need cover at right and leftback which he has already and will provide. Not sure who you think Levy will pay for better that prepared to accept these cameos.
 
The smart reaction is that Ange would rather have his best reserve GK playing a few EL games after returning from a long term injury rather than be thrown into a big EPL game for his first game back.
I am sure Ange has explained this to Spence and that Djed will be on the bench vs the Goons.
If he is a good pro like Davies he will accept that.
 
feels to me as if Ange is cutting his nose off to spite his face ( and it hurts the team)
spence is here now till christmas so lets use him, as others have said he can cover both LB & RB giving first 11 players a rest
we are not playing CL so the second 11 should be good enough in most games to get us the points needed (or wins in LC/FAC)
Once the window closes the manager has to keep everyne on board as sooner or later you will have to ask that player to play,if hes not on board he won't play his best
 
Still think he’ll be gone in the next year. I was surprised that despite the good attitude reports he was kept because let’s be honest, someone on a multi million pound contract should have a good attitude as a minimum and I wonder if Ange trusts him to be good as much as I do. I think we only kept him because we didn’t get good enough offers and didn’t want to spend what it would cost to bring a replacement in or KWP didn’t fancy coming back to be a rotation option.

Which would be perfectly understandable, if we'd made the bare minimum effort and recruited a fit for purpose reserve GK.

As it is, we don't have a backup goalie worth sacrificing our primary back up for both fullback positions for.

If Vicario gets injured for any length of time we are utterly buggered, it doesn't matter how many games in Europa Forster plays to "warm up", it's not going to overcome the fact that he's distinctly average, slow and lumbering, and not remotely suited to the way we play.

Another aspect to it is that if either of the HG keepers also in the squad aren't capable of the same performance level as 2024 Fraser Forster then what the bloody hell are they doing under contract?

Doesn't one of them have more minutes as a Disc Jockey than a professional footballer ffs?

Absolutely farcical squad building over a number of years and multiple managers has lead to this point, at numerous levels too when you realise that there's not a single decent fullback prospect come through the academy since KWP, who funnily enough would have solved a number of the issues we're currently seeing.
 
Spence already got some minutes in the PL and he will continue to get them.

We had a choice between cutting an experienced reserve keeper and cutting a reserve defender who has barely played for the first team, just because Spence has finally decided to train properly doesn't mean that he has become an important player.

He will start against Coventry in the Carabao Cup and he will have a chance to show Ange that he deserves to play more.

I dont think its anything at all to do with Spence, I honestly think it's another cock-up born of arrogance. Did you ever see Alastair Gold's attempts to point out to Ange there was a looming issue with the HG playing quota. He acted as if it was utter bollocks and beneath his attention. I worry about who is actually on top of some of the technical requirements because it don't seem very well managed.

I saw that answer and tbh I thought he was teasing Ali Gold more than anything.

Also reckon Ange is more fussed about getting the right player and worrying about squad regs after
