Player Djed Spence

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I imagine it's a mix of:

- Work hard and you'll be rewarded
- Show him he's wanted
- Keep his value up

Still nothing on Son, Bissouma or Bentancur though.

Son contract is to June 2025 (ie end of season) but its said club has an option for a one year extension.

Just a question as to when its mutually convenient to exercise it - assuming Son keeps fit - or if not that there is a planned exit strategy (and plan for a successor to be recruited. I'd guess we wait until say March/April before taking a final decision - as a minimum it also allows us time to see how Odobert, Yang and Moore are shaping up .

Bissouma and Bentancur contracts run until June 2026. My guess is Spurs want to wait to see if Bissouma puts together a run of matches where he looks the player we thought we had bought (generally he's lacked consistency at Spurs) and want to wait until Bentancur proves with a run of matches he has fully recovered from his injuries a year ago.

Well, this leaves us in no doubt that he's back in the fold and the Club sees a future for him. And, importantly, that seems to be a mutual feeling.

Hope he pushes on from here and becomes a valued member of the squad.

Only that... does it really ?!?

I'll believe it when he'll be added to Europa squad when there will be chance to alter the squads.

Right now I've seen next to no evidence he is fully back and trusted. Literally in the last game we played, Udogie was burning with bright flame and Ange still did not put him on to calm things down...

That’s just Ange being stubborn- he’s not proven himself especially handy in his use of subs, and obviously fucked up leaving Djed out of the Europa squad too.

Postecoglu explained that in an interview. He said bringing on subs might win you the game when you didn't deserve to win the game.

A “club signing” who gets a contract extension.

Surprised the conspiracy theorists on here haven’t suggested the contract extension is a Levy decision without reference to Ange, but maybe we should await Djed having a bad game first.

We had to have Austin and Whiteman in the squad due to them being the only two club train homegrown players we have. We can only assume tht Ange thinks they're shite and wants Forster as the number 2 despite him going down in installments when he has to dive.

We actually didn't have to have Austin and Whiteman in the squad. If we left both of them out, Spence still wouldn't have been able to be included.

I will guess that Ange thinks the gap between Vicario and Austin is a lot bigger than Udogie and Davies/Gray or Porro/Gray. So Spence was the logical one to leave out.

I disagreed with the decision and still do tbh. I reckon Spence gets registered in February though and Forster (or even Werner) make way.

Has a coherent reason been discerned as to why he wasn't included in Euro squad?

Numbers.

Someone had to miss out - candidates might have been Forster (leaving Austin as back up gk in EL),, Werner (but with injuries to forwards so far this season, that would have been a bad move) etc.

Ange thought leaving out Spence was the least bad option : there were no good options

Austin was a risk worth taking to have spence in squad.

Looked solid enough pre-season.

Weigh it all up and it's a no-brainer.
