Player Djed Spence

Ange on Spence signing a new deal

I said a couple of days ago and consistently say, most of a players future is in their own hands. They're as much in control as anyone else. I think sometimes footballers forget that. With Djed, it could have been easy for to go out on loan again. But when he came into pre-season, he was determined to make a career for himself here at Tottenham rather than wait to be loaned out. He did everything right in training, his attitude was great. He's a good footballer, I think the way we play suits him and he's knuckled down to that. And he's earned himself a spot on the roster in our squad. The rest is up to him again. Because it's an easy decision for me to make when I see that. Like I said, sometimes footballers think their fate is in other peoples' hands. For the most part, it's in their own. If they're doing well and doing everything right, the future tends to take care of itself, whether that's where you currently are or you move on. And Djed's certainly done that.

There is not a snowball's that Forster is omitted from the January EL squad.
So Djed fans need to put their thinking caps on as to who else could be dropped so he will be picked.

Current Europa squad (plus some potential List B's) by position.

GK: VICARIO FORSTER AUSTIN WHITEMAN GUNTER
RB: PORRO GRAY
LB: UDOGIE DAVIES
CB: ROMERO VDV DRAGUSIN DORRINGTON
DM: BISSOUMA BENTANCUR
CM: KULUSEVSKI SARR HALL
AM: MADDISON BERGVALL BLACK
RW: JOHNSON ODOBERT
LW: WERNER SON MOORE
ST: SOLANKE RICHARLISON LANKSHIRE

Dropping Club Trained Austin and Whiteman doesn't create space for Spence, who is Association Trained.

I'm thinking one of the wingers to make space for Spence: Werner or Odobert or Richarlison. But form or injuries could shift the focus between now and end of January.

Easy. One of Austin or Whiteman
Doesn't help unfortunately, they're only occupying Club Trained spots of which we have plenty, and for which Spence is not eligible.

Its a question to be asked in January, not now.

And the question is going to be which players do we need to help us get through the 3 double headers of Last 16, quarter finals, semi finals and one match final - all of these 7 matches likely to be against tougher opponents than most we face in the current league stage. That assumes we finish in top 8 and avoid the double header play offs.

Whereas we might have decided EL would give younger players a few 'easier' games to help give them experience when we made our decision in August, that won't be a consideration in January - and even that criteria may change the answer in January. Based on current form, its possible that Bergvall would be thought less likely to play in latter stages of EL (ie his game time would be in PL and domestic cups) so he would be the player excluded and Spence included, or it maybe that Moore has done enough to overtake Werner so allowing Spence in to the squad : and there may be other possible solutions

There may be incomings or outgoings in January, but otherwise its going to come back to having the best depth in EL squad in every position plus player form and injuries.

So no point in guessing now what the form of players or their injury status will be in January.

Didn’t even make the squad today because of a bug. So let’s just calm down a bit before we put too much hype behind a lad who has never started a league game for us.

He got a new contract to preserve his value and hopefully give him a second opportunity to make an impact here. But he’s still got a long way to go.

Either play him or sell him. Stop pissing the bloke about. He's fit now, Porro looks knackered as does Udogie, if fit start him against Man City.
Spence has been treated appallingly by THFC. He showed enough pre season to be given opportunities in the team. If Werner deserves game time how is it that Spence is undeserving?

This has to be club politics in my opinion.

What can Spence have done that is so terrible?

We've had Bissouma on laughing gas and Bentancur auditioning for Reform UK.
