Player Djed Spence

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Mate I’ve always said he’s a fantastic 1v1 defender but I see nothing else in his game.
Good runner with the ball, has shown some decent crossing before, has scored goals and can shoot the ball a bit. He is strong and physically robust. He should be flourishing in a quality system where he can be setup to run down the right side and make deliveries and attack the endline a bit.

He's definitely a problematic ego though and needs careful guidance and handling. Needs good coaching but we are just not doing well to sort that out. I'd rather have his defense at RB in the side than Porros bag of tricks right now.

You’ll be lucky if he’s put in 10 crosses in his Tottenham career. I can’t remember him getting the ball out his feet and having a shot which should be something that happens because he’s cutting in on his good side. He can run but there is no quality in the final third.

I accept you have your opinion about him... How about his position? Is he really a LB, or is he being played out of position?

I'd agree with this ... if he can be coached on the final ball, and to have some humility, then he could be one of the RBs in the PL. But not much sign of either happening.

Excuse Me Wow GIF by Mashable

When he's really in the mood and/or the game suits him he can be very good.

Problem is, he's not one of those guys that just gets his head down and has a base level of commitment regardless of the game/opposition/mood, etc.

If he had Kulusevski's work ethic and professionalism he could be fantastic. Instead he's a bit of a fairweather player and will lose his place in the England squad at this rate.

Not ideal that he's basically guaranteed minutes atm, either. He's one that could really uses stiff competition for places to keep him on his toes.

I think he looks exactly how he should, decent some games and poor the others. It’s exactly what you get for the type of money we paid and the fact he’s been hit and miss his whole career.

Could do with have actually gave a defined role

Good squad player. Poor in attack if he's not inverting though. Can't shoot or cross and labours his decisions.

Drop Porro, play Spence in his natural pos of RB and Micky LB. Give Xavi a free role further up the pitch, he and Kudus can provide the crosses.

his 1 v 1 defending has dropped off as well. Doesn’t get tight or aggressive anymore, just backs off now even though he’s got the pace to get up against anyone.

He doesn’t understand where and when to pass, and how to build attacks down the sides. Just runs with it until he faced up by someone and then doesn’t know what to do. Him and Kudus down either side is painful to watch. Porro is having a real poor spell but atleast he understands how to play that position and has actually quality on the ball. I’m not having Spence over him at all.

Didn’t think clapping the Forest fans like he did when we were 3 nil down was a good look either. If he loved it there so much see if they want to take him back. Id get shot asap personally

Another symptom of this club. Shows up puts in an effort when he feels like it. Poor attitude on pitch. Ties with kudus and richie as the worst player on the pitch yesterday. So many time he gave away the ball and attacks came to nothing. Didnt chase. Depended on gray and vdv to bail him out.
Get rid of the fucking face paint and diff coloured boots please and concentrate on being a PL footballer.
No leaders in the squad to straighten out attitude or effort

Yes he’s getting played out of position but he’s played most of his games there for us and regressed. Good full backs can adapt to playing and I’ve heard that he’s got a good shot on him but you’d think playing on the left would give him more scope to come in and have a hit. It never happens.

In terms of problematic players/performances this season id say djed in somewhere near the bottom of the pile well before porro, vicario, bentancur, xavi, Johnson, richarlison, odobert, bissouma, udogie, Palhinha and sarr.

He’s a pretty shit player of were being honest. Highly rated by some of our fans on virtue of putting in some improved performances over Udogie and Porro around Christmas/new year last season but the bar was pretty fucking low then.
He's certainly vastly overrated on here by some/many.

Like Porro and Ugodie, he has one or two outstanding attributes, perhaps even elite in those respects, but the other aspects of his game are so far below par that in total his overall game doesn't even reach "average" territory.

With him his defending and athleticism are the standouts, whilst Porro is almost the direct opposite. If you could cobble the pair together like some kind of Frankenstein's monster of a fullback then you'd have almost the perfect modern day fullback.

Unfortunately, as individuals their weaknesses render them almost useless. You can't even develop a team system to cover for their flaws because you'd have to have two entirely different team systems depending on which is playing.

He's utterly useless at lb by the way, might as well play Ben Davies rather than watch Spence get up the left and then turn around and pass backwards for the millionth time this month.

He’s uh .. very very confident and I’m not sure he’s ever consistently been good enough to justify said confidence. That podcast where he sat indoors with sunglasses on with Rio after a few good games pretty much summed him up for me.

The penitentiary/social media stuff
, the shots fired at Warnock etc .. there’s fuck all wrong with ego and swagger but if you don’t back it up most games on the pitch you’re going to make yourself a target.
Peak-Woolwich behaviour on show at times from him.

Worse thing about Spencer was being picked for England.

Nothing more than average from what I have ever seen.
I don’t think it’s helped his ego one bit!

When he’s on it, he can be really good especially one on one defending like when he’s shut down Salah.

Unfortunately we were warned about it, but his attitude seems to be his major weakness. I saw him give up the ball several times yesterday and look like he really couldn’t be bothered to put in any effort to recover and put in a tackle.

The vast majority of our players seem to have mentality issues.

"Right lads, first session of the week is a Powerpoint Presentation on how to wear matching coloured boots, not wear a gay little star under your eye on gameday, avoid gloating Social Media posts whilst we're bottom half of the league, and how to take your shades off whilst indoors in a darkened room, we're gonna hammer this every day until you get it, to the Hotspur Way Auditorium!"

Yeah, it's on Frank to turn that round. So far the signs are not good, but I think he deserves more time. Unless we are sliding into a relegation battle in Jan/Feb then I'd keep him for the time being. We should also be warming up candidates for the summer, if we do need to change.

Exiting a few of the offenders (Vic, Bent, Johnson for starters) and bringing in guys who will really play for the badge could help hugely. It's contagious in both directions!

Did he clap the Forest fans? Fanny. Should be benched for a few weeks for that. Hit his WC chances
