Player Dominic Solanke

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If I was coaching him, I would motivate him properly so you see him constantly running for the whole game. He has the engine to do so.
The issue we have is that more than a natural scorer, he plays a vital role in creating goals for others. Ange needs to recognize this and use it properly. We could get dozens more goals per season if this ability was leveraged correctly. When I become a manager, I will try to recognize these things earlier and not make the same mistakes.

Good luck with your managerial career. British Asians haven’t really made any impact at playing level professionally. Let’s hope coaching is more inclusive in that regard.

He's such a valuable player that the best solution is to run him into the ground.

I can't possibly see a downside to that at all.

Thanks. Currently trying to prepare for my AIFF A qualification in Dubai UAE, but my dream is to work in the English leagues.

I meant more intelligent runs that play to his strengths. He is severely underrated as a player as people wrongly class him as an expected goal machine. He is not, he is an assist machine. Utilized right he will get us an additional 20 goals a season from other players.

I didnt mean run him to the point of Injury. I mean run in a useful way that is constructive towards the team getting a result. He literally can be the talisman that makes us title contenders if used correctly but he is mismanaged. A lot of the team have been this season. Thats why we are having the worst league season since 2003. We literally have less than 50% of the points Liverpool are on. This breaks my heart.

His downside is : he runs without the ball much better than with it . That is not going to change.
Hopefully he doesn’t have to run with it too much. He’s more of a target man, hold it up and lay it off type. He’s shown he’s good enough to do that. And he’s not a bad finisher when chances are created for him.

But if we’re expecting him to pick it up and dribble with it, that isn’t really his game.

When I get a chance I might try and work out our total goals and results when one or other of them is on the pitch

My gut feel is that Solanke creates so much more for other attackers that we'd score quite a few more with him in the team.

I agree entirely.

I am not saying have Richarlison instead mate, as opposed to who scores the most goals at this level.

Your point is absolutely on the money, but we still need more, because we are so porous.

So, if we can get more goals from Solanke - great, but I suspect loads of goals at this level are not happening, so we need another, if we are to maximise those aspects you rightly mention..

Mid-march and overall it's been quite disappointing in terms of goals and assists.

But Ange is probably the main culprit here. He has no ability to involve our striker in the attack. Why did he even want Solanke?

Solanke's miss today was pretty bad though. If that was Son, he would not escape criticism.

I am both impressed and disappointed with his hold up play. On one hand, he seems to get the ball to stick to him with his first touch.

On the other, he seems to hold onto it so long he gets crowded out eventually and loses it.

I suspect the latter is simply due to Ange’s (lack of) tactics.

Didn't make any sense to me that Dom played a third 90 mins in seven days. Looked knackered come the second half and will have done him no good after returning from injury. If he was going to give Scarlett some game time seemed pointless doing it so late, and out of position.

Or Ange's inability to change the approach. What he's expecting from the striker is unrealistic. The positioning is way off. The timing of the play is all wrong. Other teams have figured out how to play against it and shut out the striker. A good manager would've change that by now.

Solanke was good enough for Bournemouth and was a really hot player when we bought him. Yet we're in 14th in the league. Solanke downgraded by going for Spurs under Ange. He's actually a better player than this. And it's clear he's not the problem.

When you say dozens do you mean 24 or 35 more goals per season? Thats quite a statement!

Good luck out there young man. I look forward to seeing you rise through the ranks of Indian coaches.

I like him. Seven league goals in twenty games isn’t good enough for a 65m striker though. I’ll put it down to Ange for this season.

It's a bit better than his PL average of one in four and half.
We bought him on the back of one good season. It ramped up his price.

Angeball is such a paradox- supposedly attacking and entertaining- yet he buys a target man and Johnson.
To play entertaining football you need creative entertaining players.
