Player Dominic Solanke

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He's literally just an average PL striker playing for a bad team

Solanke has scored 36 goals in 155 appearances in the Premier League which is subpar

Not sure why people think he's some good striker? He's had one good season

I've kept quiet on Solanke until now, hoping he'll start to score goals. Sadly, it's not happening and in my mind he is now just another in the long line of failures in that position. We need a goal scorer - 20+ per season. He never seems to be in quite the right place, does he? - you know, the place where Porro scored from tonight.

and who made the run in behind, passed it to Maddison, who the found Porro who scored?

Bit of a stretch to say he’s in the wrong place on that play.

Based on what? He had a very good season last year but it's looking like a purple patch/everything went right for him. He's been a very good championship striker before that. I don't see anything 'so obvious' about him all of a sudden becoming clinical. I've seen him miss a fair few sitters for us already.

I like the guy, but I think he's a back up for a club with champions league ambitions. Certainly not worth £65m.

Exactly - yes if a team is making loads of chances he will score some goals - but there are thirty-or forty other strikers in the PL and Championship that would do exactly the same.
He does not have enough attributes.
Not fast, no particularly good in the air, not particularly sharp the box, can't shoot from anywhere other than close range .
Has only very had one good season.

Ange will be defined by signing Solanke for £65m - that is not bad luck it's bad judgement - and it is certainly not entertainment

had a big hand in the goal. makes an unselfish run thats literally going nowhere so we can get the ball up the pitch and gets maddison into the box due to it.

needs far better service. for that he needs far better wingers. that makes the team go up ten fold.

I don't think this is correct at all tbh.

The problem is we've not been able to create chances for him.

Main take watching him last night is he’s properly isolated in this system.

No idea if that’s a normal thing or just what they wanted to play like last night.

Son and Johnson both touchline wide. Maddison dropping into the 6.
Bentacour moving forward but I don’t think he ever makes a forward run past Solanke.
And bergvall literally running around in a circle in midfield looking for pockets of space.

When we get the ball in the final 1/3 often two players go on the touchline and then Solanke runs off in the opposite direction. I assume to create space for the invisible man because no other fucker runs into it.

Really not sure what Solanke is meant to be doing. “Run around a lot” could literally be the instructions he’s given.

Don't really know what to make of him really. We probably overpaid but I was OK with the signing... it just hasn't worked out. In and out the team with a couple of niggling injuries, does a lot of selfless running but not getting any service. I'd like to see how he does in a different system but right now you have to say we have once again missed the mark with another high profile signing.

Yup been saying this all season, he has no one playing around him, the guys completely on an island by himself.

Two wingers who don't produce anything and aren't very clever in their roles and are stuck out on the touch line, Maddison playing deep as well so no link play with him.

The ball goes out to the wing and gets recycled constantly back to the middle of the pitch in deeper areas, we rarely attack through the middle.

Mental people judging him on goals when he doesn't get any chances and has no one to link with.

He is decent in my view

It is unfair to have had roo much expectation on the bloke and he does not set the transfer fee.

But once again, the presumptious believe what they want to believe.

We need a better main striker, at which point Solanke will be under less pressure and do better when called on.

And yes, maybe with better players around him but the same is said of Kane in the biggest games. Sometimes it's just how it is.

Solanke has to make the run that creates the space for Johnson's chance last night and Johnson's first goal vs Southampton. It's a selfless role for a striker in this system. Last thing you need when you are putting the team first like that, is the fans being cunts because you aren't getting chances to score.

So it’s the system then. Wingers are meant to be offering him zero support and he’s covering a lot of ground.

I might be missing things but he had a weak header on target, son cut in and shot saved and Brennan left foot chance over the bar.
Was that the sum total of attempts on goal from our front 3 last night? They are or should be better than that.

But I think he’s being judged unfairly based on what I saw last night. And I have no idea how Iraola used him at Bournemouth. But pretty sure it was not like this.

Basically the system requires him to be selfless so others are facilitated to be in dangerous situations.

Last night that’s fine if the others take their chances but they didn’t.

The previous games before last night, the system wasn’t even creating chances for others really.

Now we really need to go to Wolves and the system works to produce a win and some momentum but we have been utter dirge on pretty much every Sunday game after a Thursday EL night.

How is Solanke supposed to be there when he was running the channel. That goal don't happen if Solanke didn't do what he did and then some great work by Maddison.

The only time Solanke gets put in, something happens.

You clearly know more about football than me. Naively, I mistakenly thought Solanke was brought in to score goals. Silly old me.

in this kind of system i wonder if instead of a high press high energy guy like solanke we wouldve been better with a more creative number 10/9 hybrid type of forward who could just hold it for a moment and play others in

Solanke has not had a fair go - our underpowered midfield (with too much slow and square passing) is not creating opportunities for him - this is exacerbated by the inability of our wide attackers (Son and Johnson) to take on opposition backs and thus create opportunities for a roaming central attacker.

Compare Solanke with Chris Wood at Notts Forest - Wood is no more talented than Solanke but those around him create far more opportunities for Wood than Solanke's team-mates create for him
