Even this is a disaster. I won't be blaming the FA for making this appointment. When you have the chance to pair a pool of players this gifted with a coach of this pedigree, it's an opportunity you can't let pass you by.

Can't get caught in the whole furore of him not being English. If Portugal won this last Euros. Would anyone have said "yeah, but the coach is spanish so it doesn't count". No they wouldn't. And Portugal have a larger pool of top head coaches from their country than we do.

Ultimately, if it works out. We're champions of the world. Couldn't give a fuck about anything else. It's just small print.

Football will be similar to that seen under Southgate but he’s a far better tactician, should be the difference needed to get past a decent side (Italy, Croatia etc) in a semifinal and final.

Tuchel's appointment is expected to be confirmed at a press conference on Wednesday, scheduled at Wembley for 1.30pm and hosted by FA chief executive Mark Bullingham.

The German is expected to receive an annual salary between £6million and £7m, putting him among the highest-paid managers in Three Lions history.

talkSPORT understands that Tuchel will begin the role in January on an initial 18-month deal, which would take him through to the end of the 2026 World Cup.

World’s best fanbase and an incredible, champions league winning coach who has a proven record of navigating cup competitions.

‘Lumber’ ??? Tuchel is a class act. International teams almost never get this calibre of coach. Good god combined with the talent we have this is insanely promising.

Yep. At least the best of national sides. Never met a prouder bunch more willing to spend insane amounts because the St George’s Cross is branded in to their fucking hearts.

Fantastic appointment, on paper. Knows what tournaments and winning them is all about. England have the players to win a tournament, hopefully he can help them find the mentality to win one.

Up until the last tournament I thought we played some good stuff in tournament football under Southgate. I thought we were generally excellent in the World Cup other than the 0-0 group game against the US. I thought we also played pretty well and looked a good team in the 1-2 loss against France, who were tournament favourites.

I think the English national team from the motherland of football is unsuitable to try it out with a person who is - in my opinion - too difficult.

Maybe I'm wrong, because Harry Kane is looking forward to him.

In my opinion he might be a good fit for a good team/national team for a short time? But "occasionally" it has failed - as I see it - because of his personality (Dortmund, Paris, Munich).

We'll see.
He wouldn't have been my choice.
