Is or was?

You've spoken in past tense and then in present tense in the same sentence?, our academy isn't great now but it was back then, we had an academy which had been headed up by John McDermott and had some absolute gems coming though the youth system and guess who's idea it was to invest heavily into it....

You can ignore the facts and pursue your anti ENIC agenda until you're blue in the face but let's not try and argue against facts.
An absolute myth of the highest. What “absolute gems” did our academy produce under McDermott? And please for everyone’s sake don’t mention Onomah, Edwards et al.

I’m talking about players that have actually gone on to achieve even moderate success in the game. The only player Poch brought through the academy to achieve anything in the first team was Harry Winks…

And that isn't up for debate, no-one said Poch doesn't deserve his flowers, my point is that everything should be attributed to Poch, as always people want to separate Poch from ENIC and want to attribute all the good things to Poch and the bad things to ENIC which is hilarious to me, the players, manager, staff, board were all one team and need to be praised as one as much as they need to be criticized.
I’m sorry but I just disagree with this sentiment. Pochettino spent almost his entire tenure here working miracles with his hands tied behind his back. The success he brought to the club was absolutely unparalleled with little to no backing from the board.
The only Summer the board actually went out and got the top targets was the Summer of 2019, but it was far far too little far too late.

I will always praise ENIC if they do something good, I’m by no means exclusively Poch - good ENIC - bad. But I would be very very reluctant to praise them for the success we enjoyed under Pochettino. They offered him no more help than they have offered any other manager under their tenure, none of whom have made us even nearly as competitive as Poch did.

No, the reason why we attract top named managers is because of our world standing and our year on year improvement so much so that we are now an established top 6 club, no amount of money is attracting any top manager 10 years ago for example.

It's the same reason why we sneaked into the ESL (whether you think that was right or wrong) it doesn't happen if Spurs aren't on the platform they are on now, again that's down to the direction the board has taken this club.
Okay then, let’s look at the top managers we’ve procured over the last few years.

Pochettino (you mentioned him) - was at Southampton when we got him and was a second choice target.

Mourinho - a washed manager when we appointed him looking for any way of staying at the top level.

Conte - joined as his best mate is our DOF and we are paying him absolutely massive money.

ENIC’s vision and ethos has absolutely fuck all to do with the above.

It's still funny to me that social media blew up and this thread and Jan transfer blew up simultaneously as soon as the Gapko signing was announced as if we were in for him :D
I think watching us yesterday, clunky, beige play with added keystone cops defending and then seeing Newcastle, Woolwich and Liverpool play good entertaining stuff and subsequently being 10 pts off Woolwich who have a game in hand is why fans arent happy. Its not about Cody Gakpo but again Liverpool have an issue up front up and bang, they have it sorted before the window opens.

See this...this here IS ALRIGHT 👍🏾

I think anybody arguing our Academy is anything other than fucking shit is probably on a wind-up. Kane is the only decent first team product we've produced in a decade. And before anybody says Winks or Mason please don't bother. I'm talking about players good enough to play in the first team for a decade. Kane is all we have to show for the last 10 years.

Foden, Mount, James, Saka, Trent, Rashford etc..we are not producing players anywhere near that level.

The Academy churns out lower league players for other clubs. But in terms of producing players for the Spurs first team it's next to fucking worthless.

It feels like now or never for ENIC. We have the stadium, we have the manager. Either they back Conte - which means buying the calibre of player that will allow him to compete with the best - or they sell up.

Decent article here echoing much of what's being said in this thread.

Yes considering that the poster who suggested this, is, in his opinion, a fountain of all football knowledge way above us mortals. It was a ridiculous comment that has been undone with holes found in it from the off.

Exactly.
Ali Gold saying exactly the same here. EVERYONE, even the most religious Levy defenders can see its now or never for this current Spurs regime.
Levy has always been in charge and we’ve never won. Time to do it differently now or the game is clearly up.

On more and more shit based on short term plans and zero football vision because they can’t be bothered to put in place a long term football philosophy and instead would prefer glitzy managers on short term contracts whilst pretending to build for the future by signing young players who are never actually seen on the pitch.

All whilst delivering reactive, shit on a stick football. There’s zero entertainment value in being a Spurs fan at the moment and it’s not as if we sacrifice entertainment for success or for future planning. It’s just a constant reminder that we’re improving commercially whilst never seeing that translate to the football. All we have is short-term bursts of success, usually after appointing a new manager.

So no trophies, no plan, no clue, no hope. ENIC out motherfuckers.
And that is not something I'm arguing against.

I'm arguing against those that say that Enic take money out of the club and don't spend on the football side of things.

They don't spend as much as the oil clubs, who does, but they do spend more than most.

The fact that, as you rightly say, is mostly on shit is a separate issue.

So Villa, Bournemouth and Wrexham are spending as much as us.

WTF.

We're 3rd highest spenders in the league for the last 2 years.
How can that be true?

UTD, Chelsea and Liverpool just blew 2 years of our budget each in the summer transfer window. Woolwich have had the highest net spend for 2 seasons in a row and City brought Haaland.

In the summer transfer window West Ham and Newcastle both spent more than Spurs.

Spurs made a big song and dance about injecting 150m for transfers. Liverpool just did that in 2 transfers for Darwin and Gakpo. Spurs still wiping their feet about spending the 50m left from the summer budget.

it should be the last throw of the dice for levy, if things are not looking good in the next two years his time should be up. but if it is a failure whos going to get him out? the club isnt appealing to the sportswashers due to its jewish connection, not that anyone should want the club in the hands of sportswashers. no one can force enic to sell. it seems like the only logical buyer would be some american firm or something i dont know? the stadium being capable of putting on NFL games might help on that front.

I’d swap owners with Chelsea in a second. Yeah they’ve had teething issues but they’ve signed quality and continue to target quality. Long term that’s far more likely to yield results than whatever the fuck we’re doing.
Bohley?

Nkunku is very good and will arrive next summer but.............

Sterling £47.5M
Koulibaly £33M
Cucurella £56M
Fofana £70M
Aubamyang 10M

216.5M

you're telling me if we brought in the above, and had the start Chelsea did including Losses to Leeds and Southampton (oh and home to Woolwich)

yourself, Joan Thomas and all the crew would be delighted yeah? They've had a worse start than all.

you'd all be fuming. come on.
