Couldn't have held him hostage though. He gave us plenty of good times and great moments, but I don't resent him for leaving as his career is good for another 7 years max (based on his game being pace based). If he wants to come back later on and play for us again, then great. But in the light of things, he brought in a large fee that should have been better invested, but both AVB & Baldini were entrusted with the job and didn't exactly do a good job of it so far.

I don't really think it's productive to resent the past and cling to it - we have a future and if it means we cleanse the club of Sherwood and get someone like LVG then it may well be worth it in some way, long term.

it's funny how you completely leave Levy out of the money side of things lol

I've really no interest in this debate as it's been done to death time and time again but you don't have to hold someone hostage who has signed a 4 or 5 year contract.

Contrary to popular belief these days contracts are legally binding documents which hold up in a court of law and are very important. I've been on here long enough so I'll be back later fellas

F u c k. Some of the things being said here. Listen, if we want to be the best run club in the league, that stays out of the red despite that being the fashion in football these days, some things are gonna happen that might not be to our liking. Especially when building a whole fucking stadium in one of the shittest parts of london.

And for the record, anyone that says "We're never getting a new stadium, blah blah blah" fucking DO ONE, because you're a moron.

We're fucking fantastically run, we have wage structures and transfer budgets, we're a well established top 6 team, which seems to have passed some people by, because we used to vary between being shit, and bang average. We were perennially mid table, REMEMBER THAT? Shall we go back to that??

Or shall we get this stadium built, and push on to the next level?
OR you could all just be fucking happy we're better than about 86 of the 92 teams in the fucking football league you whinging, ungrateful cunts.

Finding it hilarious anyone thinking Levy should/could have FORCED Bale to stay.
We seem to have more deluded fans as the years pass

I find it hilarious that some people still don't understand how a contract works and try to act like they are meaningless pieces of paper lol only deluded football fans mind you.

A contract doesn't guarantee performance though, that's the thing. Bentley is an example of being utterly useless despite having a contract and talent, but no effort.

Levy always gets away scot free, Burned through a near dozen managers, £300m worth of players in and out. All we have achieved over a decade is a carling cup by a guy who is the supposed worst manager in the history of THFC. The guy who got spurs into the champions league ( your beloved english boy Arry) wasn't backed either when he was screaming for a striker. Nor was that clueless man who got us our highest point tally ever in the premier league era backed with the right transfers.
Same fiasco this season, Whether it was AVB or sherwood, they both needed an adequate leftback. Instead we have made history again by managing to achieve the highest number of individual defensive errors leading to goals.Gross mismanagement.

I don't know at what point some of you will admit ENIC are not doing a good enough job, will it be when liverpool lift the premier league trophy?, when everton qualify for the champions league or when Woolwich win the FA cup. When will the overused excuses of us being better than in the 90s be exhausted?..

I'm coming at this completely out of context... However, I wanted to pick this up as I used to do a lot of high level contract recruitment in a former life and can confirm that contract law is incredibly difficult to get to hold up in Europe. Not least because of our good old mate "The Human Rights Act".

Out of all the contracts I saw go bad, precisely 0% were litigated as it was seen as a waste of time at best and a cash black hole at worst.

Not getting involved in your discussion, just thought it was worth mentioning, having seen people walk out on contracts worth six figures with impunity.

Carlito Brigante Carlito Brigante I'm with you that ENIC are wankers.
I'm just saying who do we replace them with & can we even force them to go when they own a majority of shares?

I'm no expert on contractual laws or English law but how then were the likes of Adrian Mutu sued for breach of contract? and why then are they still in use if players can walk out whenever they choose?

That's a good thing about American sports the clubs still have alot of power and the players have to fall in line.
